Tata Safari Storme: Leaking dampers issue?

A few members on our forum have reported Damper leakage in the new Safari Storme. For some of them, even after replacing the entire set under warranty, the dampers leaked again.

If you own a Storme, did you get a Damper(s) replaced under warranty? If so, how many kms had the vehicle done.

I have added a poll also to get the numbers from our forum members

For reference, here are a few posts

Apparently at TASS Pune , i saw lots of front shockers of stormes being replaced under warranty due to leakage in them.

A major component failure that so early after product launch makes QC questionable ?

Besides these, there have been reports by members of Safari Owners United League(SOUL) on the facebook page of leaking dampers being replaced under warranty, and then leaking again.

Please add model month and year to your replies so that faulty batches may be identified.

re: Tata Safari Storme: Leaking dampers issue?

Mine is a February 2013 model.

The first time all shockers were replaced (including the rear springs) undr warranty. I think the details are there in my Beastie thread?

At that time I remember one was not leaking (I think front right) but since I had heard that Tata had made some changes (vendor?specs?) and I did not want one new damper and one old one I requested that they change that one as well, and it was.

P.S. It (front right) had also started leaking mildly and was finally replaced as well - this was just before my one year service (around 7,500 kms) - the other thre I recall had been replaced at around the 6,000+ km mark.

The second incident is now at the time of my 2 year service when the rear right was found leaking again. And came under Tata's new Category 1 leak (not to be replaced under warranty - until it degrades to Category 2 or 3). Anyhow, it was replaced under warranty. At 15,500 kms.

March 2013 model bought in Aug 2013. Rear shocker replaced around 6 months back and front replaced 1 month back. Only one side was replaced on both occasions since only that one was leaking.

Re: Tata Safari Storme: Leaking dampers issue?

Photos of the offending leaking shocker from the new/replaced once under warranty lot.

Notice the shiny black part of where I swiped my finger to check if it was wet oil/weep.

One of the guys there had the gumption to tell me "itna to hota hai, jumping ke karan thoda excess oil seal ke bahar fenkta hai" .....

And also "fit karte samay thoda oil dalte hain" ..... so I asked him if that was the SOP, why the remaining 3 were bone dry?

Puhleeze!

Re: Tata Safari Storme: Leaking dampers issue?

The photos of the leaking front right shocker when the vehicle was raised on the ramp to check for the sump leakage.

They finally agreed that it was a proper leak and agred to change it (what I had been pointing out since the time they replaced the other three). Then the part was not available etc. etc.

Findally the shocker was made available and was replaced.

These are the photos of the leaking shocker before it was replaced ....
