I currently have 2002 July Indica DLS which I am planning to replace with new Indica but unable to decide b/w Turbo, non Turbo and Turbo with intercooler. I was told by the service engineers and Tata dealers that DLS Turbo (without intercooler) would give 1-2 KMs less mileage than non Turbo and Turbo with intercooler (DLG and DLX) would give 2-3 KMs less than non Turbo. I read some where that turbo charger increases the efficiency of the engine. If this is the case why would Turbo Indica gives less mileage than non Turbo Indica and even lesser mileage by Turbo with Intercooler indica (DLG/DLX) ?

I looked at the owners manual of both Turbo and Non Turbo versions and I see the following differences w.r.t gear ratios. Is it due to the difference in gear ratios that Turbo gives lesser mileage? Looking at the gear ratios non Turbo should be easy to drive in 3rd/4th gears in city. Isn't it?

(Non Turbo) Turbo

1st - 3.64 3.64
2nd - 1.95 1.95
3rd - 1.27 1.13
4th - 0.88 0.78
5th - 0.64 0.636
Rev. - 3.58 3.58
Final drive ratio 4.4 4.4

Anyone can explain? Thanks....
