The Autotronics programme is a 1 year course, consisting of 3 modules - mechanical, electrical and vehicle systems. It also covers technology in safety systems, infotainment systems, body repair and diagnosis.

The company has tied up with Hindustan University, Chennai for certification of technically trained manpower. A few more tie ups have been planned in future.

Through this programme the company will provide support to selected institutes. This includes technical support, imparting training to faculties, providing aggregates and sub-assemblies and components of automotive technologies employed in vehicles. The Institutes are equipped with classrooms and a workshop facility with all the required tools and equipment as per Volkswagen standards.

After successfully clearing the final exam, students will be declared as 'Certified by Volkswagen Group Sales India Academy', and will have opportunities to work at various Volkswagen Group dealerships across the country.

Excellent initiative by VW. This would also mean that people would have more hands on experience BEFORE they join the service centres than joining them and then training them.

It would be awesome if they made this an open course for anyone who wants to learn. Maybe structure it a bit differently (weekends) and provide targeted courses (how to change oil / do regular maintenance etc.)

It is a very good initiative by the VW. The quality of workforce at the service centers can be improved as well as more capable and trained people will get jobs which will result in good quality of service and better customer satisfaction.
I think so VW is doing this to make its service cost less than its competitors which has been the only sore point in buying a VW group car.

Re: Autotronics - Manpower Development Program by Volkswagen

Excellent initiative. Kudos to VW. These kind of initiatives will go a long way to BOTH improving service quality as well as grooming a cadre of trained VW technicians. I hope more manufacturers jump into the bandwagon and allow these technicians to actually set up their independent garages, if they choose to do so. It may not make the incumbent service centres happy, but the large manufactures like VW should look at brand promotion holistically, without being caged in by the narrow interests of existing incumbents.
