Re: Your car's engine rpm at highway cruising speeds

Tata Safari Storme VX 2014

100 km/hr @ 2100rpm
120 km/hr @ 2500rpm

Exactly same as mentioned earlier by a fellow BHPian.

I feel most confident driving between 80 - 120 km/hr. The beast cruises without any strain and is pretty silent making it more enjoyable.

Cheers!

Re: Your car's engine rpm at highway cruising speeds

Hyundai Verna 1.6 CRDI

in 6th Gear

80 - ~ 1500 (Turbo lag forces you to downshift to 5)
100 - ~ 1850
110 - ~ 2000
120 - ~ 2200

maintaing speeds ~ 110 with gradual accelerations with 70% AC returns an impressive mileage of 20 kmpl.

I thought I was the only one. I wish every review added the cruise RPMs of the car at 80/100/120.

I cruise in my Beat Dsl at 80-90 kph with the needle on tacho hovering around 2200-2500, respectively. The NVH doesn't make me feel like accelerating further, unless I'm overtaking. At these speeds, I just love the relaxed nature of the engine.
This is one of the things I look for when I drive a car/bike. One of the reasons I'm in love with the new Bonneville's T120's engine, which makes 105 Nm at a lazy 3100. Perfect for cruising from dawn to dawn.

I want to find out how relaxed it feels at highway speeds. I'd love to cruise in a car that can do 100-120 around 2000 RPM. At this RPM, it can munch miles like peanuts all day, everyday, literally.

These look like the dream specifications to me. Numbers like these would make me forget that there's a petrol engine under its hood. Tank range on the highways would be through the roof.

Does it have a CVT or a torque converter? For a torque converter, these numbers seem realistic. For a CVT, they are very difficult to achieve but may not be impossible.

Re: Your car's engine rpm at highway cruising speeds

Vento TSI:

80 kmph = 1750 rpm
100 kmph = 1900 rpm
120 kmph = 2100 rpm

Love it !

Don't exceed 120 ever. The figures are with 3 people, minimal luggage and AC on.

Re: Your car's engine rpm at highway cruising speeds

VW Polo 1.6 GT TDI

80 kmph - B/w 1500-1700 RPM
100 kmph - B/w 1900- 2200 RPM
120 KMPH - ~ 2300 RPM

The 1.6 TDI engine from VW is a gem and everybody who has driven one or owns one can understand this.

The refinement is not its forte' but with turbo spooling right from 1500 RPM, the cruising ability is sublime.

So true!! The engine is very tractable one. I use it as an automatic in highways from 60-105 kmph after which I usually won't push higher due to noise.
Front the info added by fellow bhpians ,the best car for my style would be ,
1. Old i20
2. US Honda Civic AT
But I have a doubt,my vento has the same engine but differ in engine speeds from your GT despite same ratios. Why?
It would've been better if there had been an additional gear since even with 5 gears,I get 20.5 kmpl by constant cruising at 105-110 kmph.

Quite loud thereafter.

When with A/c, FE further reduces by ~3kmpl easily.
I have a new linea mjd and my rpm numbers are as follows.

90 kmph : 2000 rpm
100 kmph : 2200 rpm
110 kmph : 2400 rpm
120 kmph : 2600 rpm

The engine starts making its presence felt after 3000 rpm.

Re: Your car's engine rpm at highway cruising speeds

Honda City iDSI (non-VTEC) 2006

80 kph @ 2500

100 kph @ 2900

120 kph @ 3300'ish

It's a 78bhp sedan, so expecting above figures are in line. NVH and engine noise are extremely controlled though, typical Honda. At 120 and above, it's just not that confidence inspiring, and with the kind of brakes (and rim size, and tyres spec, and body, and safety features) on this vehicle it's best to stay below that mark though it can go higher.

Tata Nano 2012 (Just for the kicks)

80 kph @ I don't know (Maybe 4000rpm? )

100 kph @ Maybe Redline

Re: Your car's engine rpm at highway cruising speeds

Great thread.

I too for one, look at the RPM meter while driving rather than the speedometer. The design of the Ritz sure helps here with the RPM mounted separately on the dashboard.

Ritz ( Diesel )

80kmph @ 2000rpm

100kmph @ 2400 - 2500rpm

120kmph @ 2900 - 3000rpm

Re: Your car's engine rpm at highway cruising speeds

Hyundai Grand i10
AC on and a flat smooth expressway road.
5th Gear 80kmph at 2200 to 2500rpm depending on load
100kmph at 2500-2700rpm.

Really silent cabin at cruising speeds (coming from a 800 and Santro).
Engine especially very silent.

Mind you these are approximate figures. What do you guys do stare at the tacho? Look at the road ahead!
Just kidding
