Hey ppl

I know this is a darn stupid question, but somehow i found my knowledge in this area lacking.....

Can anyone tell me how do fuel gauges really work?
What kinda device works at measuring the fuel quantity used and how the fuel gauge nearly accurately shows the amount of fuel left in the tank.

Any sites that i can refer to?

Thanx

exactly ..there is a float in the tank which measures the level of the fuel in the tank...and it works almost same like the float in the toilet flush tank
only thing that it is connected to a measuring device.

Check out the link posted by RJK and search for fuel gauge. The animations there can explain much better than anyone here can put into words.
