i have a query regarding my CLio. Its done 66,000km here in Paris. Abt 2 weeks ago i noticed a mild whistling noise coming from the engine. Back then i ignored it. Now, its occuring more frequently. The sound is not very loud and can only be heard if the music is off. It occurs between 2500 and 3500 rpm in the first 4 gears and neutral (haven't tried in 5th yet). the car is also due for a service. What could be the reason for this and is it anything major?? i suspect its a belt that has become loose or misaligned..

just guessing here : If the belt is loose I think the sound would increase as you revved up and stop as you take your foot off the accelerator.

otherwise leakage in the air intake ? or something stuck in the radiator fan ?

I've heard a few SUVs here that make such sounds. It could be the belt. Why don't you get it checked at the dealer itself.

i must say, it's surprising to know that the Clio should have such problems.

Its not the V6 version. I wish it was. Its just the regular 1.4 petrol engine. Thanx for the help. I'll get it checked this weekend.

Deeps,
Any solution to your problem? I am facing the same issue with my 1.6 Accent. Wanted to see if I am worried for nothing.

As mentioned in this thread I am too experiencing the same whooshing (whistling?) sound from my 800. Is it very serious ?

Regarding the 800, there is 99 per cent chance that it is belt noise. I dont know anything about the french beauty. But, c'aussi a pu être bruit de ceinture, (courtesy google).

Guys it turned out to be related to a small leak in the radiator somehow. And if its the belt in the 800, i guess tightening the belt should help....and this is not an expensive/time consuming procedure. Sandeep, lol, good effort with the french.
