Vikram,
Can you please share with us your experience with Filling nitrogen in your car? I feel this can throw more light on whats being discussed on this thread.

Have you checked pressure after driving your car for say 10 - 15 kms? |
The fuel station i filled nitro is about 7kms from my house on the way to my office, so i drove (some streches @ 80kmph, others at 30kmph) that much to get its checked. and i get it checked only once a month, last being on 27th jan 09. plan to do next check only on 28th feb. currently i do not feel any loss of pressure while driving.

Do you mean no variation or no pressure loss? :Shockked: |
No variation obviously means no pressure loss at least thats what i understand

I have already shared my experiences with nitrogen on the post mentioned below.

Vikram, thats useful info. I am going to baseline your data and try to arrive the results for my ride in next week or so. Will publish it on this thread once QED!!

But there is a difference!
Pressure
variations, with temperature changes, will occur in a nitrogen filled tyre just the way they would happen in a tyre filled with compressed air. This does not involve LOSS of pressure.
Pressure
loss from the tyre might vary slightly between the two. Loss obviously means you need to go and have it filled to the correct pressure again.
So which one were you referring to?

I would say no loss of pressure
i filled my lancer in dec first week & there is no loss in pressure.
there is a smooth feeling in the ride which i felt during my bangalore - kottayam & return trip

In that case, please be advised that there is no empirical evidence to show that nitrogen leaks out slower than dry compressed air!
Obviously there are factors at work that you have not taken into account! To claim that nitrogen leaks out slower is like spreading mis-information!

I did not claim that nitrogen leaks slowly than anything else. I only said that i havent topped up since Dec-2008. and frankly i dont care about the science behind this as long as i dont have to waste time at the fuel pump topping up air.
This is the first time i have filled N2 and i am going to verify pump attender's claim of no pressure loss for 6 months.
Further, i dont know from where you will source "
dry" compressed air.

you filled Nitro :Shockked: generally this abbreviation is used for explosives such as Nitroglycerin , TNT or Nitro-Benzine and not for Nitrogen gas ( N2)

You will be wasting time topping up nitrogen also.

Dry compressed air can be sourced from any petrol bunk on a nice hot sunny day.

Not every fortnight. at least not till now.

well there is no device to check whether the air dispensed at the petrol bunk is dry. Most of us usually top-up air along with fuel in the mornings when humidity is relatively higher.

Sorry for not being chemically precise and not writing "Nitrogen". anyways in the context of the discussion where it was written, you would have understood that it was not TNT right?

Your thought was much closer than the earlier TNT :)

@Srikanth - Does it inflate using a tall nitrogen cylinder or from a nitrogen generator? |
Vikram - I dont remember seeing a cylinder at this place. Its got two displays one which counts down the time in seconds and the other which displays the pressure. It deflates the tyre and then fills in nitrogen. I remember once I filled it up in Madhus in bangalore a couple of years back when I saw the guy moving the cylinder around while filling up nitrogen in all 4 wheels.
Edit : The one am referring is similar to the one posted by enzo10 a few posts earlier
