Wrong move, mate. As you'll find out sooner or later. Though every engine has it's pros and cons, it cannot be deemed useless.

Dude, the power of even a Maruti 800 more than suffices under "normal driving conditions" - especially in India. Why even bother then?

I dont. I think theres a big difference in driving a 800cc engine and a 1.5l engine even in "normal driving conditions"

The point article is trying to make is that VTEC only makes a difference to the car at higher RPMs. If that is in fact true, you may not experience the benefits of a VTEC in heavy traffic.

where i disagree with the article is

Obviously the author of the article has not come across any team-bhpians
I think most VTEC owners would drive at high RPMs a lot of the time.

Now that's a joke. The Vtec engine works it's magic at low rpms, that's when the engine is set to "low cam profile". This means that the engine uses less amount of air and fuel mixture, just enuf to move the car around at a relaxed pace. Exactly wat you need in heavy traffic!!!

When you revv the engine, it switches over to "hi cam profile". Meaning that the engine takes in as much air n fuel mixtures (keeping the valves open for a longer duration) as possible giving the car enuf boost to leave the competition behind.

Vtec is not only a performance feature but, also helps increase fuel efficiency at low rpm.

Then again, there are diff types of Vtec engines :
1. DOHC Vtec
2. SOHC Vtec
3. 3 stage Vtec
4. Vtec - E (E for fuel efficiency)
5. and the recently launched "i - Vtec", seen in the Accord and CR-V sold here.

Check out the link below, that should help.

Understanding Vtec engines and it's diff functions.....
