We have discussed about increasing BHP (performance) by installing parts like air filters, free flow exhaust, etc. in various threads here but I wanna know if there is any way to increase TORQUE in a 2 wheeler or a 4 wheeler. So guys please help.

Gearing, ECU remapping, increasing the bore, modify the exhaust/intake system, increase the length of the stroke are some ways to increase torque. These are all highly technical to execute and needs thorough expertise, the quality of which is not easily available except with rally tuners. Increasing HP is therefore the more widespread of performance practises.

Beyond a certain level, excess torque results in excess wheel spinning, and therefore is quite useless beyond this level.

Torque is dependant on the intensity of air-fuel mixture burnt, compression pressure of the engine and it's cubic capacity.

BTW, there's no such thing as excess torque. Gear ratios can be altered to increase or reduce the torque reaching the wheels depending on traction levels.

That wont help increase torque.

Using a short bore and long stroke will help improve torque at the flywheel.

Whenever you are increasing BHP, you not increasing the working rpm. You are actually increasing the torque (except when you are changing the gear box)

Thats what I meant, perhaps in a too-short single statement :)

increasing torque
by oversizing,
cam profiling,
shorter gearing,
inceasing exhaust backpressure
get a DI diesel man. That'll make more sense.

Not true. Though people would belive so, the fact is that the engine performs better when there's min back pressure.

Increasing back pressure puts more load on the engine.

How exactly does that work out? And if it did, wouldn't the heavier flywheel require more torque for it to be turned?

Does the torque really increase or is it just being produced at a lower rpm?

If you are looking for torque, there is no replacement for displacement.

With heavier flywheel we are increasing the mass(weight) hence after certain momentum it keeps rotating with increased inertia so this increases torque with is nothing but the rotational motion.......we do feel slight sluggishness at inital run up.....stock flywheel is the balance of both...not too heavy & not too light.....

Also increasing the back pressure have adverse effect on engine....infact it increases load on engine.....because engine has to overcome this pressure during exhaust stroke.........

Anything which improves combustion is the key apart from changing parts of engine...once we take care of combustion process there after other parts can be taken care of like flywheel.......
