Fuel guage needle going up and down

The fuel guage of my Alto lx has been playing some tricks lately. While i am driving or take a turn or a car goes over a bump the needle suddenly dip down and then slowly goes up again to the same level.
Once the needle was below the reserve and filled her with 500rs petrol and the needle went way up more than half the tank it happened only once.with 10l of petrol how can it show half a tank

i think the needle has become over sensitive. Is their anything that can be done because its becoming very irritating now.
Have searched and couldn't get a answer

the fuel gauge works on the variable resistance in the fuel tank....the higher the fuel level the resistance is less so the gauge show full level...the variable resistance in the fuel tank is faulty....that is why it is showing incorrect readings......

ur fuel "tanky's" meter/leveler(gauge) is not working properly. we had the same problem in my dad's car.

solution: open the "tanky" and change / repair the meter/leveler(gauge) and any mech can do it. the petrol needs to drained out though. but u can always carry those big plastic jars and pour the petrol back when the leveler is repaired / changed.

you can also try getting the tanky cleaned while you get the meter repaired.

The sensor is faulty or the worm is weak.

Dont know abt sensor cost. A worm is a high-tensile spring that controls the movement of the needle in an analog meter. If the worm is weak, the needle roams - as might have been observed in old cars/vans/buses.
