now a days engines have to follow so many constraints and the technology<i mean petrol>is not progressing that fast, so now we cant expect 50% rise in a single bolt on application.
now we all need to collect 2% from here 3% from there another 2% from some where.
the big bang days for little money -with reliability are over for sure.
so assuming that the original intake is tooooo restrictive& assuming that the replacement filter<of any brand> is not so restrictive then 5% gain is HUGE by todays standards .

Turbosam - A performance filter with a well designed CAI can easily give 5% more power. So the gain aint huge in any way.

if the combo can give 5% more powerEASILY <with same or better quality filteration than stock 5 micron 100 filteratin:Frustrati > then great ,really great! but still 5% gain is really good thing to start with...
u can start searching for 5%each at 15 different places..
and u will end up with the best of the engines around..

Whats the point there? You dont put 15 CAIs in a car.

Somehow, diesels are easier to work on, simple pete bolton, and 15-20% increase.

Agreed, 24 bhp and 75 nm after a 10-min job sounds rather easy to me. Just got mine done and no its not Pete's.

Busa, what Turbosam meant was that 5% each by doing other mods, like headers, underdrive pulleys, cams, upgraded ecu etc.

even f1 designers look for 1%here another 2%there and sum up to 1100hp when rules and regulations allow them to...
even mobil 1 helps the same way ....cutting losses <read adding net usable power>:)

It is not the fact that an engine is a diesel or a petrol that makes it easier to work on. The fact that the engine being worked on, is a FI unit, helps. With a turbo/SC setup it is much easier to boost the power output reliabily since the manufacturer plays it safe and uses low spec parts from its bin to keep overall costs low and ensure longer engine life. Also the boost and other variables are kept on the safer side.

For citation, take the Skoda vRS. It is 150 bhp from the factory, and it runs on petrol. A simple piggyback upgrade, which plays with the fuelling and timings sees the power climbing north of 180 horses. Any upgrade after this requires many more replacements, like intercoolers and even upgraded turbos in later stages.

Hence, the ease of performance upgrades is more in the favour of factory fitted TC/SC cars rather than naturally aspirated vehicles. Does not depend on the fuel an engine burns.
