Tata Tiago: Engine starting problem

We have bought BSVI Tata Tiago XZ in February 2021. Since then it has been running smoothly with 5000+ kilometers in the odometer. However, in the last week, first time we experienced the problem of engine locking in the car. In the morning while starting it, the self starter motor did not get activated. TASS suggested to reconnect the battery points and it was resolved. After a week, today morning again we have encountered the same problem and we could not start the car yet after trying for more than an hour . We did not face such issue in our Hyundai and Maruti cars before. Please suggest me what could be the possible options to come out from such issue/situation. Thanks in anticipation.

Re: Tata Tiago: Engine starting problem

This could be down to Battery & Electrical Issues.
Get your battery tested under 'load' by some nearby Battery-Guy.

Thereafter, get your wiring harness inspected for any cuts/rat damage etc.

Also, it would be better if you can record these on video.
It will serve as evidence, if Service Center guys are not responding.

Re: Tata Tiago: Engine starting problem

This isnt a battery issue. It's a known issue on many Tiagos and Tigors for the past 2 months or so. The immobiliser locks the engine and doesn't allow it to crank at all. I believe you would also be getting a warning on the cluster that says "LOCKED" or something of this sorts.

Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery resets the system and the car starts. It's a good jugaad to overcome a highly irritating and intolerable bug in the software (might also be a hardware issue).

Put your foot down and ask the ASC to come up with a permanent solution to this issue.

The starter motor auto - switch / relay has malfunctioned. TML will replace under warranty.

Re: Tata Tiago: Engine starting problem

TASS first changed the antenna however, the issue did not get resolved. Consequently my car had to be towed for the second time. This time they have changed the entire lock set up. After that the issue has not been reoccurred by God's grace. Thanks to all for their valuable inputs.

Re: Tata Tiago: Engine starting problem

Starter motor solenoid issues, known problem across the Tiago twins (including some JTP specimens). Most common symptom is a blown 20A fuse on the starter circuit. Service swaps in a 25A fuse for a jugaad fix, until the starter gives up completely eventually and needs to be replaced (which they hope occurs beyond warranty, for obvious reasons).
