Re: Endless issues in my Skoda Rapid 1.6 TDI

Sorry, to read about the troubles you are facing with your Rapid @techmotor.
The issues we faced with the Rapids in my friends circle (all 1.5 TDI DSG 2015-2016 model year) are
1. Scaling & greenish deposits in the coolant tank. Most of us had replaced them at around 90000kms.
2. My car suffered a coolant tank rupture during a long drive in summer.
3. ABS sensor failure. Everyone in the group had our sensors replaced atleast once.
4. Excessive engine oil consumption at around 9000 kms post regular service. ( started carrying a liter of recommended oil in the boot to fill when necessary).
5. Excessive front disc pad wear. All cars had their front disc plates replaced once.
All our cars are high mileage with every car crossing the 120000 km mark with no major issues ( fingers crossed). All the cars are serviced at the authorized service center as we all have around 6 -12 months of warranty left ( we bought the 6 year warranty after reading the owner reviews). Post that we have found a capable FNG guy to service our cars.
P.S: We are waiting for our first DSG failure which we know is around the corner.

In the past year (7th year of ownership), I have faced a lot of issues.
1) A/c suddenly stopped working in the middle of a trip. It was diagnosed as radiator fan module failure
2) was going to a doctors appointment and experienced sudden jerkiness in ride and the check engine coil light lit up. Had to replace one injector as there was electrical failure and could not be repaired.
3) all the 4 ABS sensors failed at different point in time within the year and had to be replaced.
4) in the middle of a trip horn suddenly stopped working. Diagnosed as a clock spring failure.
Thank you very much for this informative post. My car 2015 Skoda Rapid TDi DSG has faced the same issue. AC switched off on its own all of a sudden. FNG guy is saying radiator fan failure and is it quoting 18K for radiator fan assembly. Could you confirm the price you paid for the replacement ?

So I should expect the below ?
1. Water Pump Failure
2. Injector Failure
3. ABS sensor failure
4. DSG Failure ?

I am also contemplating a remap, but the max torque rating for the DSG in Rapid is only 250Nm. So I am reluctant.

Has anyone remapped the TDI DSG reliably without issues ?

Ac blower switched off looks like a AC blower Relay failure, have your checked all fuses and relays?

Glad to be of service. If memory serves me correctly, I think the radiator fan module cost was around 9K.
For the other list of failures you quoted, you may or may not get it as there are too many variables for failures as we know it. But no harm in expecting it and arming yourself with the knowledge. Most of the listed things ( apart from the DSG ) happens without reason or warning!

Not really. The same company that made DQ200 also made the DQ250 which had far lesser DSG issues reported than the DQ200. So I would say it is a design fault or a compromise on the materials used.

So finally I replaced the radiator fan at INR 14.5K . But the issue is not resolved. The alternator is faulty. The price of a new alternator is 26K. So I gave it for repair. The repair guy quoted 6K. Fingers crossed

Re: Endless issues in my Skoda Rapid 1.6 TDI

Just to make the list comprehensive, Another thing my FNG observed was that the coolant tank that came with the car developed several micro perforations in the upper part of the sphere, 7 years and 70k kms later.
It was not visible to the normal eye. We had to change it as well when we found the coolant level going down slightly without any apparent spillage.

Alternator was repaired, the car is running fine. I feel that the lag in the first and 2nd gear has increased or it is just placebo after driving my wifes pertol car.

I asked my tech the same question, but he said it is not required. My car is in its 8th year but covered only 34800 kms.

What was the cost of the coolant tank ?
