Toyota dealer changes the wrong part on my Fortuner; Now what?

Hello there,

I'm the owner of a 2010 Fortuner that's done 95K kilometres, till date.

Since I reside in Bombay, I had sent the car to Madhuban Toyota Kurla back in January of this year for it's 93K kilometres service. My steering used to vibrate violently post 100 Km/Hr and so upon inspection, it was found out that the LHS inner ball joint has some play, and despite our approval to get it changed, my SA said it'll run for another 5K kilometres and we can get it changed during the 1 lakh kilometre service, to which we obliged.

Fast forward to June, I came back from the UK and took it to my trusted dealer, Millennium Toyota Thane to get the ball joints replaced. Blame it on human error, my SA got the lower arm ball joints changed instead (I still did not realize his mistake at this point).

Two days ago, I got a feedback call from Toyota Kirloskar Motors asking for my feedback on my 93K kilometres service that was done at Madhuban Toyota Kurla and I shared my feedback saying that despite my approval to get the LHS inner ball joint changed, my SA did not change it and from now, please tell Madhuban Toyota to replace a part, especially if the customer has authorized it. On the same day, got a call from the deputy service manager of Madhuban Toyota Kurla, who tells me that Millennium Toyota Thane has changed the wrong spare part. I was in for a rude surprise and decided to escalate an email to TKM, stating their authorized service centre's incompetency.

Madhuban has offered a free inspection of the entire front suspension but my SA at Millennium, who is under scrutiny now, is trying for a free of charge replacement since it was a goof-up on his side. Will keep this thread posted

How much were you charged, and what's the price difference between the parts?

I find this quite strange.

Did you specify a limited time for the service (ie. say you needed the car back by X day/time)?

Am wondering if the part was not in stock, and they took the easy way out.

This also reminds me of how people are extra-cautious when going in for surgery (or amputations):

Hi Bro,
I was quoted 10K rupees to change the inner ball joint. And I was charged 8.5K to change the lower arm ball joints. I think Madhuban didn’t have the particular part in stock, which is why they said it could go for more 5K kms.
Either way, the car is going to Madhuban for an inspection on Monday and then to Millennium again next Saturday. The show is just about to begin

I am a bit confused here. If 93k service is done in January at Madhuban, why Toyota is calling you for feedback on June after a good 6 months?

Is your June visit to Millenium service centre just to fix this issue or 6 months service and they did the wrong fix? How much more Kms you did in those 6 months? Do you still have the steering vibration issue or its gone with the wrong fix?

Hello sir,
Toyota has called me 6 months after the service was done even in the past for feedback. I didn’t happen to be in India when the 95K kms was done at Madhuban. But yes, dad said the steering did vibrate even though a disc skimming was done. I mainly took it to Millennium Thane to get the Inner ball joint changed but alas, they pulled a sneaky on me. I think the car did a mere 2000 kms only after its service at Madhuban and before I took it to Millennium. To answer your question, the steering still wobbles and vibrates post 100 Km/hr till date.

Re: Toyota dealer changes the wrong part on my Fortuner; Now what?

Update on the issue,
Millennium Toyota Thane called me in the afternoon asking me sir did you post about your issue on TeamBHP, to which I replied Yes.

Afterwards, got a call from the head of service centres at Toyota Mumbai, who has once again promised me a free of charge inspection at any Toyota ASC in Mumbai that I wish to send the car to. Since I recently went in for my 1 lakh kilometre service to Wasan Toyota Deonar(very competent team and a very good experience in general), I told him I’d like to get the car inspected at Wasan itself, whilst I’m there. Will keep this thread posted

Re: Toyota dealer changes the wrong part on my Fortuner; Now what?

Keep us posted. I want to know which is the most reliable Toyota ASC in Mumbai/Thane.

Off thread I recently purchased a gen 1 fortuner and my first service after the purchase was at Millennium in Thane. I also didn't have a very great experience with them there service was fine but there were a lot of unnecessary addon sold off to me. Since it was my first time I didn't bother much. But later on realised its was a long list. Infact I had asked them to remove scratches from the windscreen only if they can which they conveniently forgot but while picking up the car upon mentioning them, they used the 3m body scratch remover on the glass and told me it's done while I waited and cleared off the bills. Ofcourse it didn't help at all so I went to independent windshield shop and got it done via them at a fraction of the price charged by them. Will update the costs in a while.
Next service I tried the new lakozy at godhbundar road Thane. Service again was fine but they messed up with my alignment. I had mentioned that upon complete right turn the front right wheel touches the wheel arch from the inside. Had to come back for the alignment as the castor bolt wasn't readily available. But overall the price for alignment bolts + alignment + rotation came to abt 6K. Not sure if these castor bolts are required or not. My car has done about 50k kms now and was previously in Bandra. SA said they had to be changed due to rusting. Also told me to get anti rust treatment done which apparently Millennium had already done (atleast on papers)

Hi Abhijeet,
Suggest you try Madhuban Toyota Kurla or Wasan Toyota Deonar. Both of these service centres are very professional and have the best technical teams

Cheers

Re: Toyota dealer changes the wrong part on my Fortuner; Now what?

Recently gave my 2009 Toyota Innova for service in Madhuban Toyota at Reay Road, Mumbai. Service Bill included change of all oils and coolant. Something known as T Gloss Mech Care was added which is apparently a spray bottle used to lubricate all doors. I fail to understand how does one empty an entire bottle in one car?

I received the vehicle at my premises with no coolant change, brake oil change and no washer fluid replacement. Sent it back right away. The question here is, can Authorised Service Stations be trusted anymore? We are paying a premium to get our vehicles serviced with them which has done 2,40,000km and this is what we get in return? PLEASE BE CAUTIONED
