I think that's quite a useful suggestion, will check if we have any RSA related threads here.

Re: 2017 VW Passat | A story of love, marriage and betrayal

What cars like the Passat, Superb provide in vfm luxury is often taken away due to the dealers and support crew. Luxury is not just about the car, it’s the whole ownership experience. VW Skoda dealers are useless, incompetent thieves most of the times. Even I get ridiculous estimates of ~1-2 lakhs every time I send my Octavia for service. It’s a 2015 car and if I were to blindly say yes to everything I am “recommended” to do it will end up higher than my college fees.

A good German specialist is the answer to most of these issues. My service package is running out this year and I don’t think I’ll renew it for the future. Stories like these don’t help.

Eg. My car was making all kinds of noises and the ABS system had freaked out. Skoda dealer, without even seeing the car was ready to replace the whole module at a 6 figure cost. My FNG just removed, cleaned and refit some parts for 1500 rupees. The car is as good as ever.

What an awful experience (not surprising though as I have read similar experiences few other times). I am glad that you learnt your lessons and shared it here with us so that we may be vigilant.

Regarding your friend which you shared, how pathetic of him to bribe the technician and get the part replaced, I mean reading it fumes me, what kind of person. On the flip side, most parts are linked with the VIN number of the car so how are they doing it? Am I missing something?

Secondly, I am wondering why didn't you take your car to a good fng shop for a check-up or something and get a second opinion while it was in Noida?

Also, I am curious to know what are your plans with the car now? Will you be selling or getting it fixed, what will you do?

Trust me when I say this, I would so wish he were not my friend, and this isn't even comes in the top 100 cheap things he has done

Even I used to think that parts are cross linked to VIN, but it turns out you need VIN to order a new part from the company. For everything else, there apparently is a way around, while installing the part in the car. So I am assuming that such a fraud can be only be traced if the owner complains to VW and VW zeroes down on the car that has this particular part installed, which given the extremely prompt and customer centric behavior of VW/Skoda (pun intended) isn't going to happen any time soon.

I had considered this option, but it would still have cost me upwards of Rs.1.5 lacs. Plus at the time I already had an open dialogue with VW regarding my warranty claims, that would have subsided, and I wouldn't have been in a position to take legal action against VW had I opted to get repaired by a FNG.

As of now we are hoping the courts will consider our request for refund of cost of car. Should this not happen, we will see what other options we have, nothing too sure at the moment.
