welcome to bhp family harpreet.

IMO, finding a 300D engine in Mumbai should not be a problem. however just wanted to know whether have u thought of alterations.

arnd 6-7 years ago i had driven a W123 300D RHS that was with my friend (a car dealer). the car was running on a Trax engine after alterations. the car already has a chasis strong enuf to support the heavy engine. though the NVH level was little more than the original engine, i guess with proper engine moutings and dampening at the right places should curb this problem.

also if you even happen to visit western maharashtra (place called Jaishingpur, 15km from Sangli) , there is a renowned diesel specialist mechanic who has done tons of such alterations for a variety of cars.

There is a thread on a car based on w123 platform. The guy who owns the car can help you get one gearbox. And he is from mumbai. I dont remember his name.

Harpreet928,

As i mentioned earlier, there are a couple of shops around the opera house area that stock parts for the W123s.

If someone could give harpreet the numbers of -

City motors (though this store doesnt specialize in these parts, they might have access to it)

Shreeji Enterprises (its on the south end of the same street as city motors (on the opposite side of the street though))

And there are some other stores on that street but i dont remember the names.

yeah actually force motors were already manufacturing gearboxes for mecedes and they were exporting it for g wagons of benz and they have even developed good crdi engine which is based on mercedes e220 .
ur frinds car was modified with trax engine. in reality i have seen that kind of stuff alot but those engines don't work as mercedes works better torque and longlasting, this engine holds a world record of nearly 6,00,000 kms without overhaul , and that was a taxi and mercedes bought back that car to show it in theirs musuem and they have given him brand new mercedes in lieu of that.
as far expert mechanic is concerned we have one very famous in phagwara, even the cars which get total loss or any problems of mercedes which even comapny can't solve and the matter of fact that community has gifted maybach to their sant u can check it out
