psycho is very good from whats on the forum. infact the getz low end is better than the swift. the ffe is going to void your warranty.

Not necessarily. It all comes down to how well your rapport is with the dealership

well my warranty didnt get voidlol: but my warranty gets over in a month anyway.. now lets see if i can get it extended.

Thanks Akshay.
I felt Swift to be quicker in low gears when I drove my friends swift. It was a delight to drive the swift in ghat section..superb power and handling..but ride quality and space suffers..I think the gear ratio in getz is narrow compared to swift..what do u think?

I think both the cars have poor low end power but Swift takes it all when revved up.

i agree. with my free flow and air filter i beat a swift who was pushing it all out. it does make a big difference to the pick up and driveability.
I have owned a Getz for almost 9 months now. Managed to put 4 K on the ODO including 650 KM on a trip to Kasauli (hills station)
Regarding the power issue i would say the following things
1. Getz is not underpowered. It’s just plain Heavy! And more importantly it "feels" heavy. The weight manifests itself at all times and one needs to adjust to its "Slow and Steady" ways.
Starting off from standstill or low RPM driving is a bit tedious, but nothing that should be a problem. Unless on a incline or with A/C and full load. I still manage to roll on without using the accelerator.
2. The steering response, steering sensitivity, engine urgency all have a "heavy feel" UNLESS you are already on a roll with sufficient momentum
I used to drive a M800 earlier and soon after buying GETZ i realized that between 40-70 kmph Getz kinda "feels" slow. I often caught myself thinking why i am i going on 40-50! only to realise the speedo showing 60 or little more
3. Yes reverse feels underpowered
4. Another interesting experience was when i drove a Swift Zxi about 6 months after i had bought the Getz. I was drunk, pub hopping and in the Zone ;) I was amazed! All i remember was an amazing feeling of lightness and urgency. Steering, movement etc!! No doubt a tad quicker than Getz i realised Swift not only is lighter it feels lighter!
The point being if Getz is muted, Swift is equally dramatic!
5. The A/C does make an impact in Getz!! People in Delhi/NCR must be aware of innumerous flyovers that have sprung up in recent years!! Let’s say i am doing 40-45 in City traffic in 4th gear and A/C. As i approach the incline instead of downshifting to third i often... switch off the A/C and accelerate a bit and by the time i am on the top of the inline i am doing like 45-50 in the fourth gear!
Also contrary to what many think Getz actually has GOOD torque once ur outta really low RPM, which is also one of its coring points over Swift. 40+ and 4 gear is a perfect fit..even acceleration from as low as 35 is pretty linear!
I guess for a LOT of indians thier first car (owned or driven) has been a m800 or a Zen or a esteem. We are to some extent used to lighter japanese cars which are good handlers and love being revved! Also the desire for FE and price sensitivity is almost like a character trait!, and kinda hold back many manufacturers from bringing their top of the line engines! I believe these factors make more european sort of cars like Getz with low revving engines seem different

I like the solid feel of the vehicle. Only thing I miss the high rev in lower gears.
I wanted to post this for sometime now. I had done something to my Getz which has improved the low-end acceleration.
I have a K&N replacement filter. I was not happy about the low-end pick-up, So I took out the entire plumbing connected to the Air filter and it looked something like this (see picture). I was driving around like this (without the plumbing) for sometime stupid: . Though the pickup was great, the intake roar was too much for my taste. So I had to do something about it.
In the intake plumbing, I found that there is a additional fitment that is connected to this main intake plumbing. This (see red circle in picture) is attached to a opening (~2 inch diameter) in the main plumbing and this box has a very small hole at the bottom. I assume this is for draining water that had been sucked in through the main intake. Its just has a rubber beading holding it to the main plumbing and a bolt to fix it to the chassis.
I decided to fit back the original plumbing without this extra box. I wanted to see if the additional hole in the intake plumbing improves the pick-up. Also this extra hole in the plumbing is behind the battery, It also helps to suck in cooler air outside the engine bay.
Now the pickup has improved considerably and the car now responds well in low rpms. There is absolutely no intake roar at all and it sounds like it was before.
Im extremely happy with this setup now. The acceleration has improved a lot. When i took it to Advaith Hyundai for fixing a A/C issue, the service advisor in Advaith Hyundai commented that the acceleration is very good compared to other Getz he had driven. clap:

No, the picture is taken with the plumbing upright, as it would sit in the car. The air filter will be on the top of the picture, connected to the other end of the plumbing. The circled part will be located below the battery. So when u open the hood, you cannot see this part. You need to remove the battery and its base plates to access this box.

Are you still running your Getz with the modified plumbing? Is the improvement in low end pickup still there and did any other issues have shown up due to the modification?
I am also feeling frustrated sometimes with the pickup of my Getz 1.3 (its now almost six months since I bought it) and if nothing improves after second service (due soon) I am thinking of trying your suggestion.

Hi Mohan, Yes, I still have the same setup. No issues so far. :)
How much psi do u fill in your tyres? May be you can start by increasing your tyre pressure and see if the low end improves.
I keep the tyre pressure at 33 and check it every week. I guess thats not on the lower side if not high.
Yesterday I took out the air filter and cleaned it with a vacuum cleaner (by blowing air). Lot of dust went out, but there wasnt any visible improvement after that.

Hi Kash,
I am sure that the box you have circled must be there in the car, which is assembled by Hyundai; for a major reason. I don't believe you should have removed such a vital part (which I am sure it is) from the car just for an increase in pick-up. You could have looked at adding components to your car to increase performance rather than remove original parts for the same. I would suggest you check what that part is and the effects of its absence.
@Gulgul - I second the suggestions by other on this thread to clean or change your air filter and also get your injectors cleaned which could be blocked due to dirt particles from bad quality fuel.
