Front Indicators not working on my Urban Cruiser

Good Evening everyone, I’m having a strange issue with my 2020 urban cruiser (same as facelifted petrol Brezza). Both the front indicators of the car are not working when the ignition is on (but the DRLs are working) but they work when the ignition is off. My car is with Toyota dealer for the past 2 days but they are not able to find any fault.
Request members to please give their opinion regarding what could be the fault.

Re: Front Indicators not working on my Urban Cruiser

This sounds like a ground fault. Which can be difficult to trace. They need to check the circuits for any damage and damaged insulation. If visuals don’t show anything, you need to start disconnecting both plus and minus to the light bulbs and start checking each circuit and circuit component individually for any shorts against ground/mass.

It could also be a case of a poor mass. So check the respective circuits, disconnect the various mass bolts and clean them.

I had a similar problem on my Jaguar many years ago and it took me days to find it.

Good luck

Do the front indicators work when you turn on the hazard light switch, irrespective of the ignition switch being on or off? Apart from the likelihood of a ground fault, the indicator stalk or its harness could also be the culprit.

Thank you sir for the prompt reply. They have checked all the wiring and circuits and found nothing wrong. As the headlights are sealed LED units, individual bulbs can not be disconnected but they exchanged headlights with a demo unit and the same problem persisted.
Will let them know about the mass bolts.

Sir, the same problem occurs using hazard lights also. Front indicators do not work when hazard lights are switched on with ignition on, but they do work with ignition off.

Good luck with this one. One of the challenges with electrical problems on a car is the fact that very few car mechanics are good electricians! I know guys I would rate as outstanding when it comes to mechanical work and troubleshooting it. But they are completely lost on electrical work , beyond the very basic.

Will be interesting to hear what they find.

Not sure how the blinkers work on your car, on modern cars, they tend to be operated via the BCM (Body Control Module). If they have checked all individual wires, that and any other devices such as relais, indicator stalk switch and so on must be checked.

Good luck.

Good morning everyone. Finally got the car after the week. They found a fault with the battery. The battery was replaced and now everything is working fine. Thanks for all the help.

Great they fixed it. A bit odd though. When a battery is at fault you tend to get a multitude of different problems.

Right sir, even I’m not convinced. The explanation they gave did not make much sense. But it’s working fine now, so I hope it stays the same way.

Well glad that your car is back and working fine!

I hope you have got some documentation of the battery replacement, like updated serial number etc, to ensure future warranty coverage? Please review that once and be sure. Your original kit at the time of car delivery will include the battery details and warranty card.

I also suspect - this was some BCM software glitch, that simply got removed/reset while they had disconnected the battery and it was out of power. I won't be surprised if they haven't actually changed the battery at all to be honest. Cannot think of a reason why an analogue power source will supply power to same bulb modules differently based on the switch selection in a digital circuit that is much ahead in the sequence.

Facing the same exact issue.
Will take the car to toyota now.
Is this covered under warranty?

It’s because of battery, many others have had the same issue. Replacing the battery solves the issue and it’s not covered under warranty.
