Thunderstorm immobilizes my Ertiga, puts engine in limp mode

Today, at 5:30AM, Suzuki Connect triggered multiple Intrusion Alerts during a sudden unseasonal "heavy" thunderstorm, and ultimately immobilized my Ertiga ZXi. I didn't see the alerts until 7AM, by which time all 6 orange turn indicators were flashing continuously with audible beeps (not the horn)

Unlocking the vehicle gave 4 beeps instead of the usual 2, did not turn off the flashing indicators or the red immobilizer LED, which was blinking fast, even after the engine was switched ON. The vehicle speed seemed restricted to 25 ~ 30kmph (limp mode?) - was not picking up speed with accelerator input.

Only by selecting "False Alarm" in the Suzuki Connect app, did the Ertiga finally return to normal. But, shouldn't unlocking the vehicle with the smart key have disabled the immobilizer?

Called up the SA, who advised to bring the Ertiga in for a checkup; did that and ultimately, nothing amiss was detected. SA changed the shock sensor sensitivity to low (was high) in the MID.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Re: Thunderstorm immobilizes my Ertiga, puts engine in limp mode

Some of these security systems get triggered by loud noises like fire crackers, thunder etc. because of higher sensitivity towards vibration. I used to turn off the security system during Diwali etc. (bursting of fire crackers) to avoid such incidents and turn the security system back on late at night. I think the behavior should be the same in other Maruti vehicles with the same security system.

It's a Safety feature.
Unlocking will give access to the vehicle in limp mode and once the alert is addressed through App (in case of false trigger) or OBD device, it goes back to normal mode.

MSIL is being tight-lipped about the issue, and I suspect this is a fault in the anti-theft implementation. What if I didn't have Suzuki Connect, or worse, if I were at a place where mobile network was not available? Would I then have to drive the vehicle in limp mode to the nearest MASS?
The only resolution offered to me by the SA is that they will replace the shock sensor if it happens again.

On almost all cars, except some very high end ones, just disconnecting the minus battery connector for half a minute will reset and erase all codes. If there is a serious issue, obviously the codes will reappear, engine would go into limp home mode and so on.

But if the problems stay away you are good to go! Unfortunately on most system the codes also get erased, so there is no way to check afterwards what the problem might have been.

Alarm systems on many cars are known to generate the occasional false alarm. It is happening on my Mini too. Apart from cleaning all electric connection of the sensors and ultimately replacing the suspected sensor there is not a lot you can do.

Good luck

Re: Thunderstorm immobilizes my Ertiga, puts engine in limp mode

Is the onboard security system capable enough to put the car to limp mode? Then I would be surprised to hear this, unless Suzuki Connect app actually can restrict the car to limp mode in certain situations(maybe when it senses there is a theft taking place). If so, then it should also get out of limp mode in a different way in the absence of Suzuki Connect. In other countries, such a system would not go through homologation if there was a path to block performance and the unblocking to only be possible through a mobile app. Any user manual or documentation regarding this would be interesting to read. I checked the brochure of Suzuki Connect app, and while it mentions a lot of features and an option to immobilise the engine(only when an FIR is filed apparently with backend approval) and nothing about restricting performance.

The first part regarding the shock sensor is quite normal, right from the initial days of security/central locking systems. A lightning can trigger the security alarm if the sensitivity is set to high. But that immobilising the vehicle/restricting performance is something fishy.
