My 2019 Kia Seltos petrol Automatic model 53k done transmission is making a scratching noise in odd gears 1,3 majorly. In gears 5 and 7, it is not noted like 1 and 3. Kia is unable to identify the issue. However they can confirm the cause and cost only after dismantling the transmission which is quite expensive and parts availability also matters.

Can you share some thoughts on possibilities, suggestions and your valuable inputs, thanks.

Hoping they have the know-how to investigate AT issues. If not, can you not ask for replacement of AT under warranty or Extended Warranty?

Considering the fact that it is a 2019 model, the standard warranty has already expired, if the car is under an extended warranty, then it is possible to claim under the extended warranty, else, it will be an expensive issue for sure. Considering this is a DCT, the repair costs will be on the higher side, and I sure hope the car does have an extended warranty.

DCTs are a complex technology and despite whichever manufacturer makes them are always a cause for concern, therefore, the maximum extended warranty is always a must.

I have recommended all my friends and relatives who have insisted on the Turbo-Petrol DCTs of Kia and Hyundai and VAG DSGs (they have been notorious for DSG issues) to always take the maximum possible extended warranty. It is always to be better safe than sorry when dealing with newer (somewhat unreliable) technologies.

1. OP hasn't specified if it's DCT, just says Automatic. AFAIR, it came with TC as well as CVT variants. But looking at issue with odd-number gears only, it might be DCT.

2. Looks like he's banned? Weird. Just one post and gone. Edit: Joined Aug 2007?

only the DCT has 7 gears, so it is implied it is a DCT, yes moreover, the issue with odd-gears also signals a DCT.

I also see he got banned after just one post, and that too after being in the forum since 2007.

I think it is safe to deduce that it is a DCT from the 7th gear he mentioned in the post
