This is strange! I'm receiving my tyre inflator today, so I'll inflate it to 35 psi and see if the warning light goes away.

Re: Is your TPMS reliable/useful/dependable?

The TPMS in my Tucson is pretty accurate. Shows real time pressures in PSI in all four tyres. But, it does not display the readings right from the get go. The car needs to be driven for some distance for the readings to show up.

The Kushaq TPMS does not show tyre pressure readings. It only flags when there is loss of tyre pressure.

Re: Is your TPMS reliable/useful/dependable?

Question: do we need to calibrate the TPMS after tyre rotation? Does the unit automatically register revised sensor positions and update readings based on that?

Car is Kia Seltos with high line TPMS.

Indirect TPMS does not give any pressure readings because it does not have any pressure gauge inside it (uses ABS to detect difference in speeds). So if your car shows the pressures then it is a direct TPMS.

There are inherent problems with indirect TPMS

1. It cannot tell you which of the tyres is problematic. You could have over inflated one tyre and that could be a problem.

2. It needs to be reset once you have fixed the problem (if it exists).

Also please check the user manual, particularly your TPMS section.

This must be a Hyundai trait. The TPMS on the i20 too does not update right away.

This is what the manual says:

Quote:
• Tire pressure is displayed 1~2 minutes later after driving.

Excellent question. I found no information regarding this in the manuals. But found this:

Quote:
If original mounted tire is replaced with the spare tire, the TPMS sensor on the replaced spare wheel should be initiated and we recommend that the TPMS sensor on the original mounted wheel be deactivated by a HYUNDAI dealer. If the TPMS sensor on the original mounted wheel located in the spare tire carrier still activates, the tire pressure monitoring system may not operate properly. We recommend that the system be serviced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
I'm also curious to know if the TPMS needs to be recalibrated or reset when the tyres are rotated, or if the TPMS should remain in its original factory-fitted location and only the tyres should be rotated.

Re: Is your TPMS reliable/useful/dependable?

The indirect tpms in my Octavia is a bit weird.

Whenever is shows the tyre position that has low pressure it is always accurate and I immediately check and it would have usually gone down to 25 or lower and I fill all tyres and set it to 32.

However sometimes it just says tyre pressure indicator error, check all tyres. Then usually it is a false error and no tyre will be under 30.

Not sure whether it detects a mild low pressure but is unable to say which position or whether it is just a malfunction.

I have actually given my car to the Hyundai Service Center for the same. According to their technicians, any and all Hyundai Cars having company fitted TPMS should have atleast 35 PSI in all of the tyres even though Hyundai mentions 32 or 33 PSI.
I inflated my problematic tyre to 35 psi, and now the TPMS isn't showing the low-pressure warning anymore. This is strange because the recommended tyre pressure is 33 psi. The workaround would be to inflate the tyres to 35 psi when the low-pressure warning appears, and then deflate them back to 33 psi. This seems to work for now.

Re: Is your TPMS reliable/useful/dependable?

Very useful and dependable feature on my Ecosport. This has come to use multiple times for me in the last four years, and it is a great feature to have. Calls out a gradual puncture well in advance, for instance. Also tells me when I need to refill the tires with air on a day to day basis.

Re: Is your TPMS reliable/useful/dependable?

How accurate is the TPMS provided by Honda as an official accessory? I am considering it for my Elevate. Or should consider any other aftermarket TPMS?

Re: Is your TPMS reliable/useful/dependable?

My Nexon has a direct TPMS. There's no option to calibrate it or anything and it used to be unreliable for the first 2 months of my ownership. It used to randomly give me low pressure warnings which went away automatically after a while. However, post the first two months, it suddenly became super accurate and has remained so since then till more than 2 and half years now. It has been extremely dependable and picks up pressure changes almost immediately.

I am considering getting a TPMS for my Swift Dzire and I am comparing SensAiry against Bosch. Which one is best in terms of reliability and accuracy?

Re: Is your TPMS reliable/useful/dependable?

I use a Creta S variant, 2020 model and it has lowline TPMS. It has saved me on several occasions where the indicator lits up along with a warning sound, when the pressure drops below 30 psi. Had this trouble mostly, when I drive on mountain roads (kolli, ooty, kodai - experienced in all of them). And I fill up to 36 psi, especially if the vehicle is fully loaded. It takes couple of min for the alert to go away after filling air.

I do miss highline TPMS. Is there anyway to get the software upgraded in the dashboard to modify as highline tpms? My tyres do have separate sensors inside (replaced one of them last year due to damage). I asked Hyundai service centre and they have no clue.

Re: Is your TPMS reliable/useful/dependable?

I have installed Skyshoppe TPMS internal sensors (from amazon) and its pretty accurate and reliable after almost 1 year of use. Display charges itself through solar power. No cables. For 3k is big value for money. I dont like to open up an app everytime on my phone to check air pressure and receive unnecessary notifications on phone.

I also bought two additional units of the same for my mum's and for my inlaw's cars. It's a must have in every car. Considering todays roads, features like TPMS and dash cams should be included in new cars features, atleast starting from medium range variants.

Re: Is your TPMS reliable/useful/dependable?

I have installed the SKyShop Internal TPMS in Jan 2022, and had the first sensor fail today. As these are non-replaceable, battery need to get new sensor.

I was eventually planning to move to external sensors for simplicity and being DIY friendly.

Wondering if anyone has swapped the internal sensor with external one by one. Since the Head Unit appears to be the same, it should be straightforward to mix and match.
