Re: BYD Atto 3 charging port fried while charging | What happened here?

I suspect there is more to this than meets the eye. I think no company will deny a warranty claim for something like this unless they are very sure that the fault is not theirs. In fact they would go out of their way to make the customer happy.

The op has not yet stated why the warranty was denied.

I am not sure where you are getting this trust of all companies from. Making customer happy is before he/she makes the payment. Literally every company tries to poke holes in the claim, and somehow blames everyone but themselves when a warranty claim is filed. We would not have half the number of cases in the Consumer disputes redressal commission if all companies stood by their warranty by default.

Not surprising that BYD didn’t offer warrant. I personally own an Atto3 and my alloys got cracked for no reason just by being parked for a week and BYD in the initial phase told me that I can claim my warranty but that never happened. I had to purchase another alloy from the brand.

I hope you are safe from the fire hazard and what I think is to file a case against EVM and BYD India in the consumer court for denying warranty. I did not do that because of other pressures in my personal life and could not leave the car stuck. But being a more expensive and serious issue I would suggest you to file a complaint.

Byd being a budding brand catering to the premium car market can never cancel warranty on a serious issue like this. I really hope that you can get a good amount for compensation for the mental pressure you had to go thru

Oh, I have zero trust. My point was that this is potentially so bad for their reputation and further sales that I think they would do their best to close the issue before it becomes viral. That is, if it was a fault of theirs. Just for self protection and not out of the goodness of their hearts.

Why can't the OP share what the reason for the denial of warranty was?

Moderators, please share any such thread available or if not please open a new one for Indian EV perspective if not available
You can't do that either EV fires are next to impossible to put out even by the fire brigade as the cells catch fire one by one, even if the fire is doused it may start again later. In many developed countries burning EVs are towed by special vehicles and kept in isolation for some DAYS.

It's true for Lithium ion batteries that are used in a lot of European cars, and most Teslas. BYD Atto uses LFP batteries. LFP batteries do not release oxygen when they burn. So they do not explode the way Lithium ion batteries do.

The blade batteries used by BYD really are superior to the batteries used in other EVs. No idea what the issue is with this car, its charger, dealer, or the warranty claim. If BYD/dealer are really ignoring a legit complaint, it's just sad. LFP/blade batteries in all the tests & reviews done by people in the west have shown exemplary results.

Re: BYD Atto 3 charging port fried while charging | What happened here?

I am watching this thread keenly for the root cause analysis of this incident. Was in the market for an EV, BYD seal was what I was eyeing. However, will wait a while and look at the support extended to the customer. Do not want to buy a new product with iffy service support.

Following this thread closely, was going to pay my booking amount for the atto 3 today. I will wait on the fence to see how BYD handles this.
