What! You haven't washed the engine in 21 months?

@shuvc - any update on this? As far as I can remember you were to get a test drive on 10th?

Hi Shuvc,

its a bit OT but which area do you stay in!

Cheers

Spoke to him today.

ECM again confirmed to be ok. Things getting delayed due to CC replacement spare part. Will probably take another 3-4 days. A 'backorder' has been raised, he said. Delivery will probably be a day after the part arrives. Test drive scheduled for tomorrow without the CC in place after seats et al are fitted.

I sat in the car on Tuesday. Started the engine, checked all electricals. Everything worked fine.

The clutch parts seemed to have rusted a bit - pics below. These have been replaced. Brakes are fine. Oils, coolant, plugs, filters replaced. Estimate will be sent to insurance claim by this weekend, factoring in the CC price. Should know early next week how much damage my Murphy'd pocket has to bear.

@Shrey - I stay near Bangur Avenue/Lake Town.

@filcord - Engine used to be washed during routine servicing. However those marks are really stubborn. There were some more designs just above the front grill. It took a looong time for them to disappear, although the car is washed almost everyday. I must add that the cleaning guy never specifically tried to erase it. But still ...

@shuvojoy da - time to update this thread. give us a small feedback how was the car behaving yesterday?

and please dont forget about the "lebu-lonka" (arey nimbu-mirchi) thingy ;)

Got a TD of the car this Friday evening. Drove with the service engg for around 20kms. Inched in 1st gear over horrid 'kuchha' roads, followed by sedate shifts at 1500, went upto 130, braked hard, redlined, took corners rapidly ... Must say it felt real good to be back driving my car.

- Climate control unit expected on Monday
- Security alarm 'keek-keek' sound is on ALL the time. Nippon will have a look
- All other electricals worked fine
- New clutch felt good
- Seats, carpets have dried well and frankly couldn't make out that they had soaked under water for 3+ days
- Headlights have become misty again. Asked them to dry once more. Looks like I'll need to switch to a new set of Euro II lights. Will take a call after I drive around for a few days post delivery.
- Anti-rust and full polish, internal+external pending.
- Insurance will probably cover 50% of CC, depreciated cost of clutch, plus maybe some of the consumables.

Hopefully should get delivery by Wednesday - 17th.

That sounds good, you can then really enjoy the Durga Puja. :)

Hmm, I wonder if shuvc will be taking the Silver Arrow out onto the crazy roads during the Pujas!! Especially after spending so much to get her back in shape.

Good to hear about the progress, shuvc. Looking forward to seeing the Baleno soon!

Are you sure the seats are fully dry, even inside? The sponge absorbs an awful lot of water, and I'm skeptical if will dry, unless exposed to sunlight for many, many days, that too, upside down. Otherwise you may have the problem of rusted steel components, and water condensation inside the car for a long time.

Great, 17th October is an auspicious day.

Murphy's back.

The climate control unit that arrived at the workshop had some component (required to connect to the wiring harness) missing. It has been returned. Hoping for a replacement in 2 days. Don't think I'll get delivery before 21st, given the festivals starting Wednesday.

@filcord. You're right. The rear seat is still damp inside. Wetting the pants of it's occupants. Front seats seemed ok though.

After I take delivery I plan to take out the seats to dry some more. Lets see.

@shuv: did you try what i suggested for head lamps? only pain is the removal of lamp assembly from the car, try it and am sure you can save the moolah.
