at this time he better be doing that. floods mix water with all possible kinds of contaminants. organic waste, chemicals etc. after lousiana levees broke, all water had turned toxic in a matter of hours.

Yep we did buy drinking water jars. Aquaguard water also had an odd smell. Wifey and kid are unwell - probably water problems. Add to that building water pump conked out today. Water supply will be restored on Wednesday. Going to another relatives place tonight.
Oh and my cell phone broke today.
Murphy continues to chase me !

Ok, back to the car. Mixed news there.
- Insurance claim form submitted
- Seats have been removed. Car stinks.
- Engine oil is fine (mentioned this earlier)
- ECM is fine.
- Went today and saw engine has been started ! Engine is fine.
- Climate control is shot. It switches on when the engine is started. The display panel is clouded. Needs to be replaced. Service engineer says, insurance will probably cover it. Will get to know on Wednesday.
- Some bits are rusted. Base of gear lever, a metal strip on top of the handbrake lever. These are all bolt-on metal bits. However no rust on the main chassis. Primer + anti-rust will take care he said.
- He is egging me to change the headlights. But insurance will cover 50% only. BSIII levelling lights cost 22K for a pair. So I will need to pay 11K. However, the alternative is to go for BSII headlamps (no beam levelling). These cost 3400/- a pair ! But insurance wont pay, since these are not OE for the car. As of now the lights are being dried. Will take a call on them later this week.

Thank God that the damage is not as bad as we expected.

Its better to get the BSII headlamps and save around 7k. Everything is the same only the beam leveller wont be there for which i dont think paying 7k is a good idea..

What about the exhaust tail end can?? I'm sure the water must have reached there.

This is the usual tactic. Why? Is the beam adjusting mechanism not working? Or is it just the sealed beam is foggy. Just let the headlights dry out with the bulbs taken off.

Last year had my fogs waterlogged and the workshop said the samething, came back home, took off the assembly , dried for a day and before putting it back in place employed a hairdryer (our home has many of those devices! There will possiby be another addition in the few years to come) to make sure the unit is filled with dry air.

Simply tow your car to the nearest maruti authorized dealer.

That was really informative and then maybe he should ask them to put it into a washer dryer.

@kp - will know about the exhaust on Wed/Thursday. They haven't dismantled it yet.

@1100d, I did ask them to dry it. In fact, they said the insurance surveyor had asked them to do so too. I don't think there should be any issue with these lamps. Lekin, if I have to change I'll go without insurance and get the BSII lamps. I have never used the leveller in these 21 months.

Power windows were also working fine. Forgot to ask about the security system. Engine sounded normal.

@shuvc: If you decide to go the Sheesh Motors route, you'll probably knock off a bit of the BSII headlamp prices too. Since you're not claiming insurance, you could think about it... they stock SGA/MGA.

Very pleased to hear that the main components are in good shape - engine, ECM, and sounds like most of the electricals are working too. Now let's hope Murphy goes away (he's actually gone back to Phoenix's suspension, but that's another story!).

Shuvc, It was very thoughtful of you to remove the battery connections at that time. Great to hear that the engine is doing good. For the accessories, i would suggest not to replace anything as much as possible, and wait for a few weeks. If headlights are a little dim due to water/fogging, it may dry up. After a week or two you may be in a better position to decide whether to buy new ones or not.
I am sure there will be more of these things. How about the carpets and the interiors? Are they saying they are ok? I would say get the functionality (engine, transmission etc) working fine, and then look at the cosmetics etc(seats, carpets etc).

EDIT: For the climate control thing, is it just the display that has gone? The reason i am asking is that, many electronics like displays do work when dryed completely. If the controller was submerged, then it may have caused irreparable (un-dryable) damage.

Whats the update on the car? However if you need a ride, there is a Black Ikon lying unused as the owner as well as owners father are out of country.

No further updates as of now. Surveyor wants stuff to be dismantled in his presence (headlights/climate control/exhaust etc.). Should be happening today. Hence, no estimates as of now. I have been promised a TD on the 10th. Delivery is still due on or before 15th.

Takes me 30-45 minutes of pleading to multiple cabs, before I chance upon one that agrees to ferry me from Lake Town to Sector V. Arrived mega late for a meeting with the boss today. Same story while returning home in the evening. I surely do need a second car. Any Lancers going cheap ;) ?

so it seems I was right about the ECU. it sits quite high up in the baleno. if something has gone wrong about the exausts then dont worry, I have the entire stock set at my home, you can take it anytime.

Nothing will happen to the exhaust per se, but the cat-con might be suspect. I dont think Insurance will cover the catcon totally. I guess BP can provide the cat-con, in most probability he is running without one!

head lights wash them will with water, you can use soap solution also but ensure that not even fingers are allowed to touch the reflector just shake the unit with soap solution and rinse thoroughly. then leave it in sun to dry that is all, the leveling system also should be fine once dried.
