Ford ikon + LPG = No service?

Hi Guys,

I have a ford ikon 1.3(2003 model with rocam engine) with zavoli lpg kit fitted for almost 4 months. My initial intention before was to keep the car for just 1 year. Now i like the car so much that i would like to keep it for a couple of years more.

The problem i am facing now is,
1. no ford sevice centres in chennai is willing to take the car for service because it is LPG fitted. I dont know why?

2. A few days back the car gave a big knock and went dead while i was doing around 60 kmph. I tried to start the car again but it was not at all cranking. I called up ford 24/7 on road service and they said the battery is dead and need to replace it. They came with a new battery and replaced it. The car is running fine now. My doubt is, how did they find that the battery is dead even before checking it? and howcome the battery goes down while the car is running?

3. Since ford service centres are not accepting the car, where else can i give my car for service in chennai?

Thanks in advance.

Did the service centres specify that the reason not to take the car is because of the LPG kit? Why cant they just service the car and leave the LPG kit aside. Does no harm to them.

If they persists, only option is to take it to a reliable mech outside. Ikons have been around for long, so wouldnt be an issue.

If you wish to get it serviced outside try out the chennai based bosch car service centers. They are supposedly good and do take good care of your car. They also stock genuine spares of all cars.

Please do not give your car for service any mechanic as ikon's genuine spares are not as easily available and the design of mechanicals is a different compared to accent, esteem and other cars of the segment.

Zappo's suggestion of Bosch centers is a sound one. Do explore this option.

And remember to switch to petrol and shut off the lpg valve on the tank before handing over the car to the service station.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

The reason they are saying is safety concerns. I told them that i will empty the gas tank before giving to service. Still they refused to take the car.

I have to use LPG atleast for another 1 year. Fuel bill concerns as i drive around 1500 kms per month.

I will try @zappo's suggestion.

If anybody knows the Bosch service centre location in chennai, that will be more helpful.

Thanks.

Yeah, MyTVS is a multibrand service outlet, but i am not sure of their credentials. Try writing to ford about this attitude of their service centres , else contact benny baby.

It looks like Bosch does't have a car service centre in chennai. Even their people are not aware of this.

The option left is TVS.

Hi EL,
I sure am going to write to ford about this. But i doubt i will get any reply from them. Anyway who is benny baby?

And, i hope you do have a lpg fitted esteem. right? It would be great if i can meet you in chennai somewhere.

And, do we have any place in chennai, where we have regular meet?.

No service stations in chennai?

I do not know whom you asked... Bosch Car Service is a separate business division of Bosch. They are run as franchisee operations. So it is possible one is better than the other. You will have to find that out. Normally they have very good setup including accident repair shops and sealed paint booths etc.

In Chennai at least two Bosch service centers are available. Here is a list of these centers (Coimbatore has a good no. of these though)...
