After a research in the internet for replacement shocks\dampers (with stock springs) for Baleno I had to choose between two:
1. Pedders VRD (Velocity Respose Damping) Comfort - like Koni's FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) which stiffens\softens automatically depending on various factors.
2. Koni Adjustable Yellow - the new ones have a small knob on top which can be adjusted manually without removing the shocks.
Finally I chose Koni (from Methods) since
a. intenationally Koni is far superior in quality compared to Pedders.
b. VRD or FSD dampers tends to be stiffer than adjustable ones in normal driving.
The only darw-back I felt about Koni is that it is a coil-over suspension so I have to have my car's stock struts cut to fit this in :-( .
Anybody has any feedback?
Cool,man.
Did U check for stock availability with Methods?
Who's doing the install?
Can U post pics of the install when it happens?
Hi epan,
Koni yellow was a good choice for your baleno.Any way i think Mr.George antony suggested you this, am i correct?
Geez! shailu - how did you know that? The world indeed is a small place !
George Antony (ex-rally driver for MRF & JK) is my uncle & said Koni is best value for money.
He uses Bilstein shock on his rally prepared esteem (for test drives & his sons), but he says they are too hard for normal / street use.
After searching Australian car sports forums, the feedback is Koni lasts much longer (4 L kms ! ) whereas Pedders have a infamous reputation of failing prematurely because of the low-quality components used.
I ordered the Koni Reds (stock replacement) instead of the Yellows since my objective was a slightly better handling - I am no race driver myself though I have racing genes in my blood!. But Koni has stopped making Reds & I recieved only the front struts in Red & rear in Yellow. Then I opted for a complete set in Yellow.
Nitrous - I am planning to get it installed from RAC (Mr. Ranjit) in Koramangala - but before that I have to locate a set of used shocks ! Yeah I will click some photographs. !
Congrats, this is a very interesting mod. Keep us posted, especially install and feedback on ride and handling.

I'm not sure what part needs to be cut?
The Koni itself is a strut, so you have to throw away your stock strut completely.
Looking forward to some feedback on the Konis. I actually went the other way... Pedders Comfort Gas (with VRD). It's been a challenge fitting them, but that is being sorted out.
Took an initial drive today over some TERRIBLE rain-affected roads, but the ride wasn't that bad to be honest. I was expecting a bit more of a bone cruncher! Will see how it pans out...
Eapen cheta.. please post the pics soon of the Konis and work in progress. How much did each set cost (front/back)?

Exactly. Isn't Baleno has struts all around? So, you just got to replace them.

These could be strut inserts also. So basically you have to cut your struts and drain the oil and insert this. Correct me if i am wrong
These yellows are multiadjustables right? Can you adjust it from outside? like lift the bonnet and adjust? how do you adjust the rear ones? Lots of questions waiting to hear from you

Correct me if I am wrong. For me Strut= coil spring over shocks with other smaller components.
Baleno already has McPherson struts on all wheels. The confusion was due to this

I did a bit of lookaround. Koni Yellow and Red are both Dampers, not struts. That clarifies it.
Koni Yellows for Baleno

Notice the Koni shocks don't have spring perches. Hence it is a strut insert.
This is a way of Koni making their shocks universal & reduce packing & shipping costs.
Whereas Pedders have spring perches & the orginal struts need not be tampered with.
How far has the intstall progressed? What all mods do you have to do to take these?
These are adjustables right? How do you adjust it once fitted?
Hey eapen , why don't post the price too ? Would be of great help. Thanks in advance.
