Dear Fellow Bhpians

Subj : My cavallo's heart is getting weaker by the day.

I own a 8 year old Fiat Sienna 1.7TD Elx . A car I can never part with in my whole life . So now the problem am facing is that its started loosing its pick up . the turbo lag is significantly higher and even after cleaning my K&N's its pretty much the same. What can I do more ? In my last service I had cleaned my fuel pump which again didnt help much.
I want basically use this car for local travelling so I dont need 40kmp/llol: . What else can I play with to get my cavallo running how she used to in her younger days ? I used to feed her diesel additives and on Fiat Service people I stopped giving her that as they said it might trigger loose motion.Soon after when extra mile came in I shifted to only Indian Oil Extra Mile....that diet was again pointed as harmful one by the doctor so finally Am running her on Indian Oil Diesel ever since . Have never been late for routine service infact instead of the recomended 7500 interval , I do it every 5000.

Am no boy racer but lack of pickup has slowly started creeping in and spoling the driving pleasure.

Max - What mileage has she already done?

but still ,is there any other thing that I have to look into to make sure she is a confirmed heart patient and her chance of recover is next to nil .

Check compression. It will tell if U need an engine rebuild or not.
If compression is ok, turn to the FIP which will need an overhaul and tune-up.

Basically, In my experience, if the turbo lag has increased after a lakh kms, it HAS to be the FIP and its not an opening&cleaning job. It cost me 8k to overhaul my Sumo's FIP.

Max! I know you love her a lot. So, let me suggest you these;
1. Find a good engine mechanic. Yes, somebody who's known to breath magic into worn out beauties. There're some famous ones in and around your town.
2. Follow nitrous. Get an FIP replacement before the RIP happens!
3. Lookout for a 1.9 Petra engine. And go for a swap job.
4. Get a bigger turbo and add an intercooler. You'll have to discuss with some good tuner to know about the feasability/practicality of this.

BTW, what the hell is Cavallo? Somehow, it goes well with Palio and sounds better than SIENA. rl:

Find the BEST one. They might be expensive. But,they're priceless.

Cost of FIP replacement will make the engine swap look very attractive.

Good idea unless u're particular about the turbo boost.

Ouch! I normally don't recommend fiddling with a diesel engine unless the person is MAD!

Horse/Steed/Ride.

Max, as cruel as it may sound your car has run its course. Of course if you're sentimental about it and money is no concern then there are several ways of getting it back on the roads as people have suggested, but surely there are better ways of getting around?

If it was an authorised outlet, why did YOU have to clean the FIP? Or maybe this is some new service?
