I am amused to see people here talk about mileage so much.I have seen everyone saying that in many sections such as TeamBHP reviews, initial ownership etc etc.

Below is my perspective on this,

Technically mileage is measured under standard testing condition.
There is no such thing as city mileage. As in the city, traffic jams, stoppages, various from area to area and city to city and moreover, driver’s driving expertise also counts a lot.
Hence to me, its eye wash if some one talk and compare the city mileage different people have claimed to have been getting. Same car driven by two different people, in differnet area of city, at different times(peak hrs vs no peak) gives different mileage.

And other important thing is How do you measure mileage ?
Does all of us follow exact same method for measuring mileage ?????

I would like experts to comment atleast on,

1. How the mileage should be measured ??

This answer would help all the readers of Team BHP to follow same method of measuring FE, hence atleast some consistency in data.

The fuel efficiency of a car varies on

1) traffic in which you are driving
2) the way you drive

The above 2 things matter a lot in determining the fuel efficiency.

As all the metro stations are now all the time full of traffic and jams thus 1 should take the FE mentioned a mid point and can expect his or her fuel efficiency 1-2 above or below that mentioned FE.

To minimise the error in calculating your fuel efficiency the best way is to use the full tank method
U tank full your car set odometer to 0 then when the tank is nearing empty do another tank full.
See how much fuel went in ur car and how many Kms u drove.
Divide and see the efficiency

Been discussed earlier..its like asking evryone to drive the same way

Could you send the Links please for my reference ?

Seems, I have reinvented the wheels !!!

search it out.

but a quick recap.

method #1
go to a petrol bunk.
fill tank full with auto cutoff.
reset tripmeter to 0.
drive till tank shows less than half.
go back to the same bunk, same dispenser and fill till auto cutoff.
FE = kms done/ liters

method two:
take a sheet of paper
cut into small bits
write numbers between 5 and 15 on them
ask any child aged between 4 and 7, who was born on a saturday, around noon, whose name starts with any letter between A to E or F to Z to pick up one of those bits.

The milage is the average of all the left out numbers.
this is a very accurate method, and if you tell this method to anyone, I will have to sue you. Please keep it as a secret. It has been verified by international scientists working in NASA.

Well said lol: .

This has been extensively researched and discussed in this forum .Do some research in this forum and you will find the data.:D

And so also a lot of other things. Always do a search before you start a new thread. Most times the doubts you would have would have already been discussed. Other times, if it is still a new question, try to continue in one of the pre-existing threads - it will help to keep information on related topics, together.

Type in "fuel efficiency" in the search area and go crazy with the results :)
