Hi Bhpians..,

Can someone please discuss:

what all are the differences between the vRS and the 1.8TPI?

I mean Iknow the visual differences..
1. Sunroof, Xenons, rain-sensitive wipers
2. 6CD player, Recaro Seats, Climate Contorl.
3. 3 point steering, Metallic and CarbonFiber finish interiors
4. Front and Rear Bumper, Spoiler, Head light washer. Exhaust.
5. those beautiful alloys and better tyres..

Now..
I have heard alot about the suspension setup being different in the
TDI and the vRS but is there a difference in the suspension between the
1.8TPI and the vRS? If someone has driven both can you please comment on the
handling of both cars...
And what about this "Bad Road Package"?

And any other techinical differences between the two..

Thanks a lot..
Cheers,

Spring settings for the VRS are lower, not sure about shocks. I brifly drove a TPI with 38k on the clock. It felt more looser IMHO

I have not Driven either of them.but would like to guess that the "bad road package" would mean some kind of shield for the oil sump / gearbox which is generally the weak link in modern cars.

Suspension setup may differ but i would like to hear from someone who have driven them.. I will try a TD too :)

Don't think this qualifies as a technical difference , but in a rs you can have just one set of parking lights on depending on the side of the car which is exposed to traffic.. ( like in the mercs )

I believe this is a standard on all German cars, or all skods atleast...
Even my TPI has this feature..so not really any different..

Like Ajmat said, I think the springs in the vRS are different, when compared with the TPi.

Off Topic: I'm running on Bilstein struts with UK spec springs ( ride height of car is same ), provided by Peter. Ride quality and handling is much better than stock set-up. !!

vRS has heavy duty suspension on all 4 corners. The springs, dampers (and bump stops) both are heavy duty(not sport spec, sport would lower the car which is bad for india). vRS gets a different stabiliser rod too.

The Rider 1.8 TPI gets regular springs and dampers on all 4 corners; and regular stabiliser rod setup.

I was also intrigued by this ever since the Rider 1.8 launch, but didnt try to dig deep and find out until i bought an used vRS recently.

Looks like the reply is after 7 years.

Anyway, the India spec vRS had only cosmetic changes - badging, dashboard meters, different colour etc. The only change was that the wheels were 16 inches whereas the TPI (or 20v Turbo as it was badged) had 15 inch wheels.

There were no changes to the suspension or brakes - the TPI came with discs at the rear too as did the vRS whereas the 1.9 TDI had drums.

Are you sure that there were no changes to the suspension between 1.8 Rider and vRS?

If you say both are similar then you would be very wrong.

Yes. There were no technical changes other than the 16 inch wheels and tyres.

You sound very authoritative. But sorry youre wrong.

I have with me 2 pairs of front dampers removed from my vRS and 2 pairs of rear dampers removed from my vRS. And 2 pairs of regular dampers for the front and 2 pairs of regular dampers for the rear. These have part numbers on it. So i along with 8 dampers disagree with you.

The springs have colour code on it. The colour code translates to a part number. The colour code on my vRS springs are unique and is not the same with regular Octavia including the 1.8 TPI.

I wonder how you can say they are the same when they are clearly not.

And yeah i have placed an order with the Skoda service for the stabiliser bar bushes since the ones they had for the regular Octy wouldnt fit correctly. I told them not to bother with the ARB bush if they dont have vRS specific one as it wouldnt fit correctly. They were sure that regular bush would fit, but it didnt.

And yeah, ETKA shows different dampers and springs for vRS and 1.8 Rider.

Yes, looks like Sankar just dug up a 7 year old thread. :)

My 2 cents: Best way to confirm whether two models have the same parts or not is to compare the part numbers. But I am not sure how accessible the Skoda parts catalogues are, especially for India spec models.

Edit: Just saw Sankar's latest post. Since he is sure of the suspension, my suggestion should hold good for the remaining parts.

The reason your ASS told you it would fit is for the same reason indicated above - there were no changes to the suspension in the India spec vRS. Skoda India had clearly indicated this at the time of launch of the vRS too.

There were a lot of after market original vRS suspension kits available when the vRS came out which were a straight fit on the vRS and a lot of cars had these mods done. These were original Skoda vRS parts which had Skoda part numbers. Your car has probably been modified with this.

And EKTA would show the specs of the international vRS.

Incidentally,

Oh!! i See!!
Maybe then i wonder why it didn't fit??!!
Skoda is right if they told you Indian vRS is not running the same suspension setup as the euro vRS which has the sport suspension.

Actually Rehaan is aware of the difference in vRS suspension now. I'm sure no one in here including GTO had the correct details of the vRS suspension. So please don't place your bet on an old post from a time when no one was sure.

Didn't want to dig up this thread Viju, to have a debate. I just thought i would update the thread since there was a confusion regarding the vRS' suspension from the time when this car was on sale. I too didn't know then, but wanted to know the real picture. Since i now have the correct info regarding the same, thanks to my pre-owned vRS which i picked up recently, i thought i would update it here.
