Land Rover 110: Need Help finding actuating lever for differential lock

i have been offered a 1984 land rover 110 with a 3.5 litre v8 engine.
the engine is running on twin solex carburettors and has a four speed gearbox.
it has the instruction plate for the differential lock, but i could'nt locate
the actuating lever and neither could the seller.
the land rover is in average condition, with a fine running engine, but needs
a complete paint job along with new tires and some sprucing up of the interior.
are the solex carbs correct for this engine? and shouldn't the gearbox
be a five speed unit?

The earlier landrover V8 was an outdated GM/Buick V8 from the 1960s. When BMW bought and launched the redesigned Rang Rover they plonked a BMW 4.4 V8. Once ford bought Land Rover it was replaced by a version of the Jaguar V8.

In general the GM/Buick V8s from the 1960s are not the most reliable and be prepared to shell out lot of money to keep this puppy running.

I would recommend trying to source a TD5 engine and give speed gearbox and install it in the LR 110.

hmmm.
i guess it'll be a herculean task to find
a td5 engine and five speed gearbox for the
swap here in delhi..
what do you reckon would be the price bracket
for a well kept td5 ninety/one ten ??

A mid 90s 90/110 will set you back anything between 3L and 5L. This is based on historical sales and have been quoted to me my by all the delhi import dealers. I have been searching for the defender for the past 6 months in delhi but have not had much luck. All the best in your search and if you come across a model that does not interest you or if you find more than one car, I would greatly appreciate a PM.

And my friend...... you have very good taste

hi vcash,
that is exactly the reason i dont want to give up on this
offer. matter of fact is that ive always hunkered after the V8
version, and so even though it isnt the later and better 3.9
litre unit, i dont want to give up on this One Ten..

i was wondering if the land rover gurus here would step in and
guide me out on what problems to expect and other maintanence
issues...
though i have heard some fascinating horror stories about these petrol land rovers i am still desperate to own one..

cheers
vaibhav

The 3.9 V8 is the 3.5 with the cylinders bored out to increase CC. Basically the same engine block.

Friend, I love the defender but this one will be a money pit !

@zipperone

No. The seller was asking too much money for the 110. The vehicle needed too much work and I eventually found out that the papers were non existent. I was not worth it at that price point.

Cheers

Why people un-necessarily bring back old thread.

I was about to answer the query and just realized its an old thread.

PS: You could have Pmed Gotzuk for the query.
