Engine Knocking - Indica Xeta 1.2

Hi All,
I was driving towards Pune on NH-4 over last weekend. It was in the hot afternoon and the car was fully loaded (5 passengers + Luggage in the boot). AC was on and I was driving around 90-110 kmph all along.
Then I filled fuel ('full' tank of Speed) and started off again. However somewhere before Khambataki Ghat's tunnel, Car started knocking. I noticed that the Engine RPM was around 3000 and Temperature gage was well below 'Red' indicator.
I reduced the speed and switched off the AC. The knocking reduced but continued intermittently. Thankfully, I soon reached the Ghambataki tunnel downhill and I completely took foot off the accelerator. Few minutes like this and knocking was gone.

I was trying to analyze following,
- What exactly caused this?
- What exactly resolved the problem.
- What could be done to avoid knocking.
- Was the Engine was stressed too much?

Any ideas on this?

One possibility is bad fuel.

What is your odometer reading?

Odometer is around 15000 kms. Does bad fuel cause such a problem?
I have my Servicing due next week. Can I check with the Service Station about this? Will any diagnostic facility be available there?

I would say its 100% with Bad Speed Fuel. I had also experienced this when filled BP Normal at a Filling Station in a not so good town. And i was hearing the knocking at even below 80. Managed somehow without AC and drove it very light foot and consumed it all. Next refill its all fine. Lesson Learned : Never fill at places which you are unfamiliar with.

EDIT : We have the same bike and car though different years and variants

I'd say it is bad fuel. Try adding System G for some time.

I asked about the odometer reading because missing can occur when its time to change the plugs and HT cables.

@hrag - Thanks! Will the Tata Service Center have this. I plan to ask them to add it during next weeks' Service.

@TrueDreamer - True. Same - Same! Though, I sold Victor few month's back! :-( Wasn't using it. But, I found TVS Victor GLX to be awesome. Comfortable, great pickup and Economy! Cheers cheers:

You get System G at BP bunks. Not sure about other bunks. Give it a shot - won't harm the engine in any way.

There's probably a separate thread on this already.. But does System G really help? Particularly, does it help reduce the knocking? My Xeta knocks a bit too, albeit intermittently.

On which gear you were in. As I feel 1.2 Xeta is bit underpowered.
