Under Chasis Protection For Rains

Hai TBHers,

With the rains approaching some questions on under body protection from rains.

1. What kind of paint is good for underchsais protection agains the rains?

2. How long does it last, meaning when do you have to re-paint it?

3. Does the engine room also need painting for rain protection?

Why the queston? When I bought Ford Fuson, Ford gave a black colour paint on the underchasis, they said its special, some formula known only to Ford, which is mixed with rubber. Lasted for whole 2 years without even getting scratched, it was pretty tough.

On my new scorpio, the M&M guys put some paint which has peeled off!!!!! They also said its the best in the world... bla.. bla...bla. but its of inferior quality.

My friendly neighbourhood mechanic said, he'd do the job with a fine black paint which will last for 3 years, said it will never peal off!!!!! He quoted for a Scorpio its 2K, for the Wagon R - 1200/- is this OK? Ford and M&M cost almost double this cost. I am very confused. What is best?

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

I believe that for under body there is a rubber based coating manufactured by 3M/Wurth. That is the best in this application & I believe lasts quite a long time too.

Tnx for that. What should it cost for a Scorp and for a Wagon R, approximate?

Paid 2.5k around 5 years back for the underbody coat for my esteem. Got it done at MASS. Was a 3M product and i guess it had a warranty period of 2-3 years.
