What does he mean by ready made ? Is it an old engine rebuilt or a brand new one ready to be installed ? Brand new ones should be available anywhere.

You can get your engine replaced by TATA, its called the recon engine.

Quote:
Here is what you get through TATA MOTORS APPROVED RECON UNIT
  • Recon units are factory assembled using genuine parts
  • Recon units are checked for quality and tested on test rigs used for new OE units
  • Recon Engines and Short blocks are assembled in Tata authorised Recon Centre using approved process and genuine parts
  • Performance as original
  • Backed by Warranty for 6 months / 50000 km
  • Cost effective - priced only at 50 - 60% of new unit
  • Minimum downtime

Thank dadu for the link

i called up tata dealers(Bangalore) and spoke to them, since my engine is a non turbo (1994 seirra) asked the dealer if could replace with turbo the dealer said that it is not possible because the gear ratios are different for turbos so i should change the transmission and the diff's.

guru's is this true

Engines can be swapped in markets from coimbatore and mettupalayam. But no long term guarantee, but if you meant from any good workshop, then you can go ahead.

I guess you are talking about the recon units. I know of a pretty big company that does engine reconditioning for TATA ( could be Ashok Leyland ) commercial vehicles. All the engines that are replaced under warranty are sent here. They are rebuilt here and sent back ( check this out!!! ) to the assembly line for use in new vehicles!!!

What your source might have told you about is the big time engine rebuilders like kuttukaran and popular here who might have rebuilt engine in stock.

Are they authorized by TATA.

Do they sell rebuild kits if customer want to do it at the local garage?

Thats cool and prices seem reasonable. Is something similar available for Maruti as well?

The Jaya diesel for Amby was a unique engine IIRC. It was not a rebuild but ground up design and built by Jayem.
