I read through Power Steering 101 manual in gates.com.

The pdf explains the working of power steering and clearly shows how an experienced technician should be able to detect the early signs of power steering problem.

In fact it suggests that power steering hose should be replaced after 5 years regardless of symptoms as it works under high pressure (not the return hose).

In last 10 months, I got my car checked and serviced in 6 dealerships/places across India from Kolkata to Vizag to Ongole to Bangalore. None of them bothered to check power steering system. They have to open the sump guard and do a detailed inspection in order to detect problems, but usually they do not do it.

But they charge money for inspection. Ideally they should check for the power steering system and other hoses but they are there to charge money.

Totally frustrated with so called Service centers.

IMHO, the mechanics are not reluctant to do it. They just don't know they have to do it. I think we need better awareness at the top management.

[quote=dadu;2072140]As Tanveer mentioned a detail of what all has been changed would help. The OBD code would have helped too.

But the erratic and unstable RPM with Abrupt shutdown points first to the Fuel pump (not per se, but sometimes the related sensors malfunction) and then to the electrical system.

Hi Shantanu,
What all they have changed or tried changing. Did they change fuel pump/common rail etc.,
Another problem could be some "earthing" issue.
Normally in hard to debug cases they do the following
1. ECU and wiring harness change
2. Fuel pump change
3. Injector change
4. Common rail etc., change

@tsk1979 & dadu : Thanks!! TML service engineers and Delphi engineers have checked HP Pump,Injectors back leak static and dynamic and the rail pressure sensor and found everything to be ok and within their service limits. The DTC says insufficient pressure. This is being caused not by the Rail pressure sensor but something else intermittently.

I would try to get the exact DTC from them.Since they could not find any defect till last visit they just deleted the DTC from the ECM and returned the car to me.Last time on my insistence the TML engineer decided to change the ECM for observation. The problem remained ok for 10-15 days but recurred again. This failure is an intermittent one and not happening regularly. :Frustrati

This time after handing over the car i visited the workshop to find the same circus happening all over again with no inference. :Shockked:

I have written a strong email to TML and asked them to replace my car.I had told the TML service engineer to replace all the CRDi related components viz. injectors,HP pump,Rail pressure sensor with the rail and IMV, to solve the issue once and for all but he refused stating no anomaly is found in the parts. They have now called for the TML plant engineers to come and have a look at the problem.

Shantanu

Okay, so they have not changed anything. It means they have not yet really looked at your problem.
But since plant has been informed, soon somebody will come.

I also think this is an electrical problem. When I engage 4wd and disengage it, the lights go off.The 4wd seems to be working fine.

Green Track is an authorized workshop near silk board. I gave the car for general checkup to them. They charged 250 instead of 400 at TASS, and then they also 'opened' the idler arms and greased it properly. I don't remember that work done at any TASS when I gave the car for general checkup.

the light problem is solved on its own. 4wd is working great.

Power steering problem is also solved. Required replacement of a pipe. Possible cause - leaving the vehicle parked with steering turned.

Looks like I also need to get the sump oil gasket replaced. There is a minor leakage from there when the vehicle is running. Not sure if it is safe to drive with that leakage. Asked service advisor, driving with excess oil for 300 kms is not a cause.

:OT Take the recommendation back for Green Track. I would not go there unless absolutely required. Concorde is way better.

General question to all
  1. Had you ever had a chance to look at the oil sump guards.
  2. Is it completely dry or it has traces of oil leakages (traces or anything)
Just trying to understand if this is a normal phenomenon in Tata Safari.
If not then, whats the reason. The sump bolts or the sump gasket ?

Hello

Some updates of my problem

I went to Tass and they put the car on wheel balancing bay

Did some checks also went under the hood did some fiddling for 1 hr then took a td the car still pulling to left

Then the just flipped the tires and it was gone

I want to ask

Was it wheel alignment problem

Or vld it be suspension

How to know if suspension is out

I td the car now there is no problem

But I am new to wheel balancing and stuff

So can anyone tell mr

I asked the guy at Tass he told me it was nothing major

Any suggestions

@lodhra : how much running has your tyres & vehicle done ?

It's a new car hardly 340 km of city drive I think this guys missed the wheel balance at pdi

It should be a wheel alignment problem. Swapping of wheels is also done sometimes to resolve W/A problems.

@condor

thanks for relieving some pressure. you know how dificultf it is to buy a car when everyone is against you and when they know and corelate safari with suspension problems and all

though do u think i must still be on a look out

and how do u know if a suspension is weak

or can a car from factory come with bad suspension

hope i am not over reacting

It should be completely oil dry. Leakage source should be visible from under it after you remove the guards. Just take a torch with you.

Dont worry too much about it, trust your Safari and enjoy the ride.

There is no problem. Green track guys were trying to make money. Got it checked at Concorde.

They also apparently did not tighten the power steering bolts properly and Oil was leaking all over. The oil level was also higher than the max. level. Concorde fixed it. When I took it with Green Track the service adviser was very very arrogant and instead of saying sorry said that I should have checked while taking test drivelol:. The workshop manager stepped in and tried to do 'damage control', but I would avoid them as much as possible.

AC has stopped cooling.
When compressor is on constantly hissing sound comes, means gas volume is low.
Now the service center will obviously top up gas, but my worry is what if it again leaks after 2-3 months.

How do they debug gas leaks?

They will just try the old-boy method; fill the gas and fit the air pressure gauge into the gas filling funnel and then see if the gas pressure reduces. If it is so then it will be a job of 1 day to detect that leak by checking the whole pipeline system. BTW, it could also be a faulty AC compressor bearing.:)

The PS leak happens due to clamp encircled in picture below. Get it replaced by one which has a nut and bolt it costs just 7 Rupees and concord people knows it. Also the max level of PS fluid should reach when PS pump is running
