i10 - What BHP is it anyway?

I recently purchased an i10, things have been pretty fine so far. However, when I got my RC note, I was very surprised to see the BHP mentioned as 49. I see Hyundai claiming it to be 66.6 ps for the 1.1 L model. (HYUNDAI MOTOR INDIA - Hyundai i10) And that was always the impression I have had. However, when I brought this point to the notice of the sales guy in HMP, he said that i10 1.1 and Santro both are 49 BHP, and the Kappa is 57 BHP.

I understand that BHP and PS has a slight difference, but 26% (as in this case) sounds ridiculous. So the question is who is lying?

I10 is not 49BHP by any standards. Ditto for Santro 1.1L
Its just that the RTO would have wrong information, which is pretty common considering the seriousness and character of people working there.

But what about the sales person at Hyundai confirming the figures?

Sales persons also tell you that Airbags are a luxury feature and not a safety feature. I would rather trust the manufacturers specifications sheet than some random dude in some random dealership

Go by what manufacturer's specs or the spec sheet given to SIAM/ARAI during homologation. This would be the final.

If it is any consolation, the RC of my LSi says 53 BHP PETROL.

What does your manual say? That figure should be in kW as per some ISO standard (also mentioned in the manual).

Edit: in 2003, a FIAT salesman told me the Palio 1.2 ELX was costlier than the Indica LSi because it had 16 bits more in the ECU. Honest.

To know actual specification one has to look into owners manual not rc book, in most of the cases thier woll be a wrong entry(in rc)

I remember my M-1000 was reported to have 10 BHP in the RC, if that is any consolation. this is a very common RTO blunder.

Same here. In the RC book of my Baleno they mentioned the cc and bhp of the Esteem. Got it corrected though.

Now, that is awesome power even for a saloon. At what speed does the i10 start to fly ?
