I told my friend that the full form of TDI is Turbo Diesel Intercooler. He challenged me that it's definitely not Turbo Diesel Intercooler but, he himself does not know the actual full form.
What I came to know from the net is that TDI generally refers to Turbocharged Direct Injection and is a technology used in VW engines. Other companies also use the same technology with different names.
Also, I came to know from another person that in Tata Indigo TDi , the full form is Turbo Diesel with Intercooler or Turbo Diesel Intercooler !
Now which one is correct ?
p.s The bet amount with my friend is Rs.100 !
ITs Turbo Diesel with Intercooler... Give me 50 bucks lol:
Turbocharged Direct Injection
But for diesel, Direct Inject seems to be the only option ever existed, including in CRDI.
Wrong, indica/indigo TDI were indirect injection, and TDI stood for Turbo Diesel Intercooler.
Newer MJD and DICOR engines are direct injection engines.
Even the Skoda 1.9 engine 90bhp is an indirect injection engine(not too sure about this one though)
The acronym 'TDI' was introduced by VW to mean Turbo charged Direct Ignition. Their cars were inter cooled too. They call their normal diesels 'SDI' meaning Suction Diesel Injection. I don't think you won the bet. I don't know if Tata cars are direct or indirect and if Tata uses another expansion for that acronym.
Its a marketing term and different companies use it differently. Generally its used as Turbo Direct Injection but TATA pulled a fast one.
TDI =Tata Doesnot Interest
If your bet was with reference to Tata cars - then you've won! It does mean Turbo Diesel Intercooler. The Indica/Indigo family are all Indirect injection except the Dicors. Other manufacturers such as VW do use the acronym to mean Turbo Direct Injection.
So the outcome of the bet hinges on the fact whether it was a general discussion - in which case nobody wins and if it was referring to Tata - then you've won my friend!
Tata diesel indigo...!!lol:lol:
It has to be in context to TATA> after all how many of us see the VW TDI cars here so often to prompt the bet. He has won hands down, no issues about it at all.
I am not sure if I've won it or not ! I will give him the money or he will give me the money on Tuesday. The bet was " The full form of TDI " - no reference to VW cars nor to TATA cars ! So who won the bet ??
Guys please tell in favor of me so I can show him a printout of this thread. Please ! I don't want to lose 100 bucks.
p.s i will remove this line and the above paragraph next day with "edit" option.:D

The edit option works if you post and edit your post within 15 mins. lol:
TDI stands for Turbo Direct Intercooler and DICOR means Direct Injection Common Rail in terms of Tata. :)
Argh ! I fooled myself. Any mods willing to help me edit the post ?
An honest option to win this bet would be to sent a mail to Tata asking what TDI stood for. I'm pretty sure they'll give an answer confirming your story, and you can forward the email to your friend
But the fact remains that Turbo Direct injection is more correct
