Aah! How I wish something like this can be done in my building.
I personally wash the car once a week but due to rains I had asked someone else to wash it every alternate day.
But yes, I would be a good idea to keep an eye out for this. And the only way you can see this is by taking off the wiper shroud.

Ya, thats the opening for AC evaporator coil (Heater core), as we call it. Its a small radiator kinds a thing in the dash, coolant from engine passes through it and when you turn your hearter on, basically heat from this exchanger is transfered to you through blower. It can also be thought of as a heater core filled with cold gas. The AC cools the incoming air and the heater core reheats it to a desired temperature..thats how your Cimate control works.
Now that you are getting the dash opened its a good idea to get this evaporator coil and ac blower cleaned. All the dust/small tree leaves are blocked here. Blocked heater core may result in what is called an iceing problem. The thermostat cant work as its tip freezes, and you get fumes from your AC vents as you get from your freezer at Home. A pathetic tree outside our house which sheds tiny leaves makes sure that the evaporator coil in all our cars is cleaned every 2-3 years. The civic at home needed cleaning this year (2 year old car) and the cedia may need it next year. Swift too needs it every 2-3 years.. Honda charged 4k for complete AC service including fresh gas, and ripping dash and cleaning evaporator coil and blower.

But I spelt it wrong, its called a "Cowl Top" and not coil top.
What you are saying makes perfect sense, I will ensure the entire cooling system checked.

Honda didnt disappoint us, they behaved exactly as we expected, isnt it?

Aah! Thanks for this. So looks like the ECU might not be touched.
Oh yeah! They are true to their form. Unique or not I am still baffled by the whole thing. My almost 10 year Pulsar that get abused royally in the rain has hardly a spec of rust on it. And here my car that gets pampered has rusted. :Frustrati
Any sources for the Indicator bulb (front/rear). Amber 21W, push fit. Never seen the shape before. I want to avoid going to the HASS which is 12km away with a hopeless road to take.

Any spare parts outlet should have the necessary bulbs. Have your bulbs fused? I've seen many opting for LED's on 8th Civic, wonder if these are available here.

I wanted to have a look at these pics but was having a hard time finding them.
Wow, the car looks barren after the dash has been taken off.
Any particular precautions to be taken while removing the dash?

I guess removing the dash is a routine job for them.
What I found interesting was, they just removed the entire dash as a single piece by removing some bolts from both the fender sides. It was nice to see the entire dash assembly sitting outside the car :)
Yes the car looks very empty without the dash!

One thing I found stange is that they took 4 days for such a job. Ring Road Honda did it in 4 hours.. My cousin's driver was present at the ASC and I had given him explicit instructions to see that the ASC cleans heater core and blower properly..He has previously got it cleaned for our swift, indica and alto. So, he knew what was to be done..
But I know its very difficult to see your car in such state..but until the rattles dont turn up and the problem is sorted its fine..

@Gaurav: Looks like I will be doing that same tomorrow at Carnation.
After having 3 sleepless nights I am beginning to get a good feeling again.

sorry hiren, as i had no clue as how to solve this issue i was shying away from any inputs or comments. But what is heartening to hear is that after 3 sleepless nights, the worst seems to be over. and things will be on track soon. Wishing you luck in solving this issue ASAP and getting back to the motoring bliss.
Security for the Civic.
Friends i have a bought used 2007 Honda civic.I am sure you guys know that the civic as a built-in immobilizer bit i want some more security.I wanted to know what devices/locks etc you guys have placed on your Civic's for that extra peace of mind.

If your civic is manual you can use a gear lock.
Also add on security systems are available for stock security systems by companies like autocop and so. You can contact them, some time back had sent them an enquiry for the same to which they replied they have add on module for the stock security system and in which the stock remote is still used and impact and interior motion sensors are placed.

While I have no other measures of extra security, I do have a question. Can the engine immobilizer be circumvented by hot wiring the Civic? In other words, can the current gen Civic be started without using the key?
