Incidentally I am driving the car with only the driver's seat in it. Even the HU and aircon control unit has been taken out. It is a funny feeling, like driving a tempo. In case folks are wondering why I have suddenly decided to increase the power/weight ratio, let me clarify that this is just temporary. The ICE installation is ongoing and will take one or two more days to complete. You know, this is Pune. |
Thanks for posting the fix up.
No no not a Tempo, more like a race car. Something pure.
Where it's only you, the controls and the road.
Nothing else. No frills.
No ACC ~ No HU to take away the pleasure of the I-VTEC roaring.
You my friend are only lucky chap.
Hopefully i will get to experience a True Drive before Ramesh Bhai continues with his audio install.

The light may glow
even if there's some problem with seat belt pretensioners.
My friend's Fabia's Airbag light was glowing, due to seat belt issue. The code was reset using scantool, everything was fine later.

Never had this issue just recently I was in India and after 74 days, It started in first crank.....
Rather I have a very different issue If I keep my car parked for long with hand break on then after releasing it the breaks gives sound as if they are not released and then with in 5-10 mtr. it is normal so now I don't use hand break when I have to park for long time rather I use gear...
How old is your battery... as mine is just 8-9 month old. |
My car is just 18 months old. So the battery is of the same age. I gave my car for servicing today. They said they will re-charge the battery once again. But I don't feel its a battery issue. While searching on internet I found that starting trouble is pretty common for 8th gen Civic. Seen quite a few posts on 8thcivic and civicforums regarding this and nobody seem to have found the actual reason. Some blame the ECU not "waking up" quick enough, fuel pump issues, timing chain, interference from other keys on the key fob etc. Hope it does not recur again as my job involves a lot of travel and very often I will be out of town for a few weeks.

No issue with the battery, else you'd have not been able to crank the car. |
That's what I too felt. However Dealer think it may be something to do with battery. He says there may not have been enough charge in battery to crank up the engine!
@vasoo; If this is any help, though I think it was a one off. My car (May 2010) developed an annoying habit for the charge light to come on (first noticed after Service No.1). They kept the car overnight but could not fix it (as it turned out). The light was coming on and going off intermittently. Finally, they collected the car and traced the problem to a lose wire (screw) in the under-bonnet fuse box. They tightened the screw. Have had no issues since.
The alternator connects to the battery through a link in the under-bonnet box. Now if the connection is loose there will be a voltage drop across the link leading to under-charging. Just on the off chance get this checked out.
Thanks sgiitk. I asked the dealers to have thorough checkup. they said battery was weak and liquid levels in one cell was very low. May be that was an issue. Hope it does not recur.
My service bill this time came to 8.7k. This included a spot paint job for a scratch on the right front bumper which came to 2.6k. Another interesting expense was the large black plastic thingie (front grill as per their name) inside the bonnet, which covers the radiator. Apparently this was missing in my car !!! They put a new piece now. It costs 1800 odd including clips/fasteners. I am unable to recollect if this was there earlier. I think they might have removed it themselves during some of my earlier visits and would have missed to put it back. Rest on oil change, wheel alignment and balancing... Pretty expensive stuff. Will try next service at a different dealer.

That's 4.3k for oil change + WA/WB + labour. I remember paying around 3650 for my car's 10k (labour free + oil + WA/WB/tyre rotation) service.
Also my car's recent 4.5th service at ~18k kms (a precautionary measure before my Hyd - Ggn drive) cost me 1869 for labour (850) + WA/WB (700-750) + consumables and tax.
I think you've been charged as per Honda's specified (and obnoxious :D) norms, and don't need to change dealers! And I'm sure parts prices would be the same everywhere. At best there could be some difference in body work charges.
Too bad about the radiator cowl. Even if you had pictures you can't prove that it was misplaced by HASS :(. And I'm sure you would have gotten the new car with the cowl in, else how could it pass factory an dealer PDI? Then again, we've seen the picture of a display car with 3 octagonal and 1 circular tail lamp!
But I'll keep this in mind the next time I give my car in for service.

Thinking about it, I am actually feeling there is a foul play. The service guys there may be removing some non-significant parts in one visit and then claim in a later visit that that part is missing and hence replaced. You end up paying for the "missing" item. I am complaining about this to Honda India. I request all Honda owners, especially those in Bangalore and servicing with Dakshin Honda to be wary of this possibility.
The new civic comes with a navigation system. Has anyone seen this? Is it integrated with the ice? Then it should be a double din system. Can we fit it to any older civic?

But even the current 8th Gen Civic in US has an integrated navigation system within the ICE. I guess it is market specific. But the way things are advancing now in India. I do hope the new gen Civic in India will come with a built in navigation system. It's about time.
Actually was quite shocked when the facelifted Accord did not come with a colour screen with reverse camera support etc.

The current civic in the showroom has an integrated navigation system built in. I have not seen it yet. Hence the question.

It seems to be free with all models!
It would be interesting to know how much they are charging to retrofit into older cars. I was also quoted around 40-45K for the Caska unit (accessory shop). Additional price for the dask-kit and installation.
I recently got the 4th (15k kms) service repeated as a for my car at ~18k, in preparation/precaution for the Hyd to Gurgaon drive. This was on 17th August at Pride Honda Hyderabad, just a day prior to the drive.
In addition to the regular service, I asked them to perform wheel alignment and balancing as well (wasn't really required, in hindsight) and the cost total and break-up was as follows -
Total: 1869 (incl. taxes)
Breakup: Labour (850) + WA (400) + WB (360) + Battery check (35) + Weights (47.55) + taxes (176.33)
The drive started at 17815.5 and ended at 19925.5, so after driving around locally in Gurgaon for a week, it was time for the 5th (20k kms) major service. I went to Ring Road Honda and requested them to do everything *except* WA/WB. They said they'll check the alignment and balancing on a test drive and perform them again if needed.
Total: 6263 (incl. taxes)
Breakup: Labour (1720) + brake pad cleaning (550) + new synthetic oil (2368) + oil filter (165.3) + air filter (773.4) + drain hole washer/plug (16.52) + taxes (670.15)
Interestingly one sachet less of oil was used this time compared to the 3rd (10k kms) free service in February at Pride.
Also, a comparison of labour costs at Pride Honda vs. Ring Road Honda -

Pride Honda

Ring Road Honda
The Pride Honda figures are a bit old (date to August 2010 if I remember correctly). If you notice, the 15k service labour cost reads 800 whereas it's now 850. Pride also has an updated sheet in the new format/template/layout but I forgot taking a picture of the sheet during my last visit.
I've posted only the costs on this thread. I'll use my ownership thread to describe the service experience.

spadix

There is a new ownership thread which says that the new infotainment touch screen thingy costs 47k for a retrofit job.

The accessories person at RRH told me to expect 48-49k including taxes and installation. There will be this 1-2k difference depending on local state levies, I guess.
Apparently Honda has just given all dealers the go-ahead for fitting the Caska unit into the Civic and stocks would start arriving next month. So far 2 customers of RRH have already placed an order, it seems.
