I don't think there is a grade mentioned. Its a dual purpose ATF & Power Steering Fluid. Here is a pic for your reference. :)

Thank you for the picture. I got myself a 250ml pack of Waxpol power steering fluid. Cost me Rs. 75/-
Was also offered a 1L pack of servo for Rs. 251/- but I did not buy it because it was labeled as automatic transmission fluid. On the back of the pack it was mentioned in small letters that it can also be used in power steering applications. Hence did not go for it. Here's a pic of the Waxpol fluid:

How critical is this mount ?

Some of you guys may be wondering why my car throws so many issues. Well I guess it’s probably due to the fact that the ODO was rigged at the time of purchase as I found out last year is the root cause of my miseries. A 65k run car was rigged as done 36k so my car today has done 1 lac kms when the odo shows just 71k. Its not that at the time of purchase I did not do any homework but back in 2011 Honda (Hallmark Honda) did not entertain my queries regarding service history then so I resorted to the next thing I could do, show it to my garage guy Joe. He gave a go ahead to the car so I went and bought it. In the first year the car did not have issues but I probably should have visited Honda for a full service checkup but anyways what’s done is done, I can’t change the past I guess I have just accepted fate and moved on.

Regarding the quoted issues I spoke to my Hass advisor who was not there unfortunately at there at the time of service due to ill health regarding the mount. He said that it’s not critical and be overlooked for now. The rack needs to be monitored for a while. As per him I can add oil from outside if needed to top up. As per him a repaired rack will last for max 3 years till it needs attention again so since my car’s rack was repaired in 2012 by Solitaire Honda I guess it’s time is up. Mostly if the oil level drops I will take the car to a FNG to get it fixed as at Honda rack repair costs 17k + taxes. For the boot cut I will wait for the boot to go completely kaput since the boots just have a minor cut as observed by me when the tyre was removed last night to replace a faulty air valve.

Had ordered the Honda boot lid monogram last time I went for service as the current one has lost its chrome coating.

Reading a few threads here, I thought it may cost a bomb for the small thing it is but came to know that it was reasonably priced. Got the logo/ monogram for Rs. 268/- including labour charges for fixing it. Pictures:

Dear Sumeet,

One has been following your journey with your Civic, "Independence", since the beginning.

Your passion and dedication is bar none and worth emulating. We share your joys. And your miseries. Please carry on in the same spirit.

I salute thee.

After the service my car's brakes are now giving out a noise something which goes like kadd kadd . I was told pads would be needing change in the next service. The noise does not come all the time but only when coming to a slow stop or when i brake hard just when the car is about to stop.

Well, my 2006 Civic has crossed 150 k. It is still fun to drive and is not too bothersome. I will not say that it has been inexpensive - been through 2 clutch replacements, fuel pump and a/c failure, 2-3 front right engine mounts, front right glass winder replacement- but the engine is super smooth and I get more than 10 km/l with spirited driving.

i have the winder issue now, mind sharing where did you get it done from and the costs involved? tried sending you a PM/ email but didn't work so posting it here.

Hi All,

After searching all the used car markets in Delhi & Faridabad I have realised that I have very limited options to choose from for a facelifted Civic VAT. The market is flooded with 2007 model civics. But facelifted ones are very rare. And finding a VAT out of those is even more difficult. The cars are either too much driven and the odo has been tampered or the asking price is ridiculously high. Now in the entire search for my next car I have came upon a 2010 VAT Civic with 65K kms on yhe the Odo. It with a dealer in Vikaspuri. People familiar with Delhi must know about the place. I am yet to confirm the odo reading from Honda for this car. The car looks good internally and externally. Car has reverse camera installed with new tyres and looks to be well maintained. I am going to take it to Honda for an inspection tomorrow and then finalise the deal. Any inputs on this will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

And dealer claims it to be a certified car. Though I believe this entire certified thing is a scam as I have seen cars which are certified but the odo has been tampered in those cars as well.

Thanks in advance

Ask them to give the car a thorough check including

Power steering Rack
All engine and transmission mounts
Brake pads and rotor life
Make sure the transmission "D" light is not blinking while driving as this is a sign of some issue with the tranny.
Also verify in service history as to when the fuel filter or fuel strainer was changed as this is a expensive piece of item (4.5k) along if when the transmission fluid was changed.
A/c cooling capacity.
Check all shocks for leakage.
Check bushes of all front and rear suspension and inspect for wear and tear.
Check if tyres have abnormal wear.
Check for HDS (Honda Diagnostic) and verify if any error codes are thrown.
You may also have the battery tested out if needed.

Hey

Do the newer CIVIC s are also plagued with engine mount and power steering rack issues. I thought it was the pre facelifted one which had all these issues. Also could you please tell me where does the D light blinks as I have test driven 3 - 4 Civics and I couldn't find any light anywhere on the Gear console.

It's better to be safe but one bhpian has reported leakages in the rack & PS in the facelifted model. I don't have a auto box but i believe the d light blinking is described in this video.

PS issue is there on facelifted Civics too. Thats what the mechanic told when I took mine for repair. Only the suspension and engine mount issues were sorted out in facelifted versions as far as I know. Check the 'PRNDS' indication on instrument cluster for automatic variant. It stays ON while driving in D mode. If D is blinking while driving, something is wrong with the automatic transmission mechanism. Also if the car hesitates to upshift or if there is jerking while accelerating, then the AT fluid needs topup.

You should keep in mind that Honda spares are priced at a premium. Just the other day I had to replace cowl top garnish behind wiper and that little plastic thingy cost me 10k . So unless you really want the driving pleasure of a Civic, Corolla is still your best bet. Its reliable and pocket-friendly compared to a Honda. Civic is refined and reliable but it comes at a cost. Ask any used Civic owners and get an estimate of maintenance charges you will be incurring in next 2-3 years and make an informed decision.

After going through this thread I was shocked to know that a Honda that too a Civic can be so troublesome. I had always read on the forum that Japs are always reliable and don't trouble the owners for years. That was the primary reason for choosing a Civic over my favourite car a Skoda Laura. Anyways talking about corolla. I would only get a pre facelifted version of Altis. And it comes with a four speed AT. I don't want a four speed AT. Also I never liked faux wood on the interiors and looking at interiors of Altis reminds me of cars from 90s. These are the two reasons for not going for an Altis. About the maintenance the primary reason for choosing a facelifted one is because of less issues with the car as compared to the previous car.

Called up Ring Road Honda & the car had come for service in January 2013 with an odo reading of 56k kms. This again turns out to be a car with tempered odo. :(.

Not sure where should I find a genuine car.

For all the used Civic AT queries above, I bought a 2006 model 18 months back and I have spent almost 60% of the purchase value in repairs and maintainence alone. But the engine / pickup / looks / feel still get a smile on my face every single time I am on the wheel or even looking at it as a bystander.

Breakup of my expenses are:
- 1st month: 48k first full checkup and service done at HASS (60k major service). Spent INR12000

- 6th month: 52k power steering rack repaired, coolant leak repaired, all 4 suspension replaced, battery replaced, brake pads replaced, switched to synthetic oil (Done at wagenwerkz, total spend INR70000 approx)

- 12th month: 56k Door replacement due to accident (costed 17k plus paint) and general service done at Mahindra First Choice service centre at Mira road. Expense was INR35000 approx

- 18th month: 59k AC gas leak repaired (AC wasnt working), fuel leak repaired (courtesy - rats), synthetic oil and oil filter replaced, transmission mount bolt repaired (was causing a loud knocking / clunking sound). Done at wagenwerkz with a Total expense approx 13k

- apart from the big ones above, there have been constant niggles like the exhaust pipe rubber holder coming off every other week (it's now tied with a tight metal string), a tail light not turning off when car is parked with the key in my pocket, Electricals not working if car is unused for 2+ weeks (esp left front power window), ICE & woofer wiring issues, monograms coming off, underbelly plastic cladding coming off due to lower ground clearance, front seat back side cladding coming off etc

This is a car that one should buy only if they are ready for multiple small niggle related trips to the local garage ! Having said that, spares availability is quite good in the local markets.
