Not going beyond 80kmph - Esteem 1999 Carb.

Hi, off late there is a problem with my 1999 carb esteem. Howmuch ever the throtle is given the car fails to pass 80kmph. There is an unusual sound from the exhaust may be due to some leakage. Can this be a problem?. If so should i go for a FFE instead of repairing or replacing it with a factory one. Otherwise what can be the possible factors. Thanks in advance.

Is the car starting normally or taking long? It looks like something is struck inside silencer. In worst case, your clutch plates would be worn out totally. Other possible reasons may be bad tuning.

How much has the car run? Start with a service and tune up.

A little bit of history about the car should help here.
1. When was the last time you serviced the car ?
2. what's the odo reading ?
3. Is the clutch very hard ?
4. How is the initial pick up ?

check your catalytic convertor, it might have been clogged or contaminated, you'd have to replace it(~3k) or get rid of it(not legal) .

Start with a complete tune up, including carb cleaning and tappet adjustments. Clean/replace air filter and petrol filter.

See how it performs, also might be a good idea to see if compression is ok once you do the above, to determine the health of the engine.

Hope there is no engine oil consumption with the engine.

Seems like an improperly tuned airfuel ratio/not functioning secondary butterfly/timing not set right.

I have not felt so far. It starts in first crank even in cold. The car runs really good till it reaches 80. After that its takes a long time to push it to 85 thatz it. It is not going beyond. What is the max speed that can be attained on carb esteem? Thanks for the suggestions.

It could be the case of the secondary valve in the carb getting jammed or could be a problem directly related to your faulty exhaust, though i doubt the latter.

Secondary buttery fly circuit seems like a definite culprit along with the diaphragm pump in the carb. These should be sorted out in a regular carb strip/clean up/tune up job at any of the M.A.S.S

looks like everything points out to a stuck secondary butterfly - if you want to DIY, buy some 3M carb and choke cleaner, remove airfilter and spray it into the carburettor (instructions are given on the can). works most of the time for me. If that fails - then off you go for carb overhaul .

1,15000 kms is good amount of running and i would strongly recommend carb stripping and servicing (if not done in the last 20k kms).
