Larger displacement engine costlier to manufacture?

One of the things that I muse on once in a while - Its observed that variants with larger engine displacements are quite a bit more expensive than their smaller lunged siblings. Is it really that much more costlier to manufacture a 1.6l engine vs. a 1.4 l engine? Or is the price difference more of a positioning/marketing tactic?
