Buying Tata Safari Lx - Black, Advice Required on 4x2 or 4x4(Ex)

i am planning to purchase a tata safari lx.
I have confused about 4x2 and 4x4(ex).
A section of people and dealers say that 4x2 is more than enough with the new 2.2 engine. 4x4 is only required when excessive travelling to kachha roads or village roads are required.

My usage will be 90% city and intercity crusing. 10% Holidays, Mild Offroading - like visitng national parks or some hill station visits.

Guys advice is required on this. I searched of any material regarding All wheel drive and 4x2 , didnt find much details.

Suggestion are required on what all accessoies i should go for.

the 4x4 is purely by choice rather than need. if its going to be just inter city and highway then the 4x2 will suffice - but for the holidaying the 4x4 is a good to have.

You might want to read up on
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-of...thout-4x4.html

If you feel that you will encounter terrain that warrants a 4*4 then and only then go for it.

4x2

4X2 is the answer.

If you do visualize yourself in a situation similar to the video (meant the terrain) below then consider 4X4.

If not, 4X2 should be your ride.

All the best for your new ride.

I have a 4X2 2.2 and have done extensive hill driving as well as been through a number of national parks. Never got in my way!

v&v, for the record, let me put it this way: If you can afford it, go for it.
There are many who regret not having opted for the 4X4. After all, you'll not be buying a new Safari every year!
Even if used 2% of the time, you'll thank yourself for having bought it!

But of course, it is you alone who knows yourself best!

Just in case you decide NOT to opt for a 4x4, you could save yourself a tidy amount by buying one of the very new Safaris second hand from someone who is into early regrets about not having opted for the 4X4!!
Simply start a new thread!

Go for the EX 4x4, will give you that little extra "boost" in confidence in tackling off-beat territory during your holidays too

how come you are confused between Ex 4X2 and Ex 4x4?
That was on a lighter note.

If you have the moolah close your eyes and go for a 4X4 you wont regret.

Almost 9 months into an EX 4x2 ownership. Never thought I would need 4x4 then, but now I want one (was short of Vit M then ).

Maybe I do 90% city/highway. Or maybe 95%, but with a 5% 4x4 would have made me grin for longer time.

I drive by every untarred/paved road whenever I can. If you can afford, buy it.

And if you are buying one, get it from a dealer who has sold many 4x4.

Hi v&v, you might be more confused less convinced, or vice versa, by now .
Since you've already decided to tread along the path less travelled by many, suggesting you to go with what your heart says, on this decision (4x2, or 4x4) too. Good luck and cheers!

Hey I got a used 4x4 man, its awesome, it'll sell better in the used market.

But, the LX comes for 9 lakhs on road in Bangalore, which is very good for the engine and vehicle you get. You won't go wrong with a 4x2, but its about the money you are willing to spend dude

v&v, no 4X4 fan gets into such a dilemma! Heck, they don't even ask for help in deciding.
Please read JKDas' very honest post above!
Can't say we didn't try!

From what I perceive of your profile you should be getting the 4X2. And he black is definetely a head turner. Squeeze out the max benefit from the dealer. Ask for the following:

1. Mats
2. Mudflaps
3. Rear Step
4. Cladding painted (if you like it)

Also see if you cann squeeze out a bigger discount. Some times you just have to ask for it.

All the best

Its all about affordability, if you can "comfortably" fund a 4x4 go for it, otherwise your driving profile does not require a 4x4.

If you thinking twice on the funding part, go for 4x2.
