Strange noise from rear part of the car

For the past couple of days, when I park my car in the garage of my house or in the basement at my office, I can hear some strange sound coming from the rear of my car. I don't know how to explain this sound, but it is very much similar to the noise that insects make in the forest. The noise that comes in the night from the backyard of your house that has a garden. Am I able to give you a clear picture?

I can listen to this noise only when I switch off the engine. Would there be a problem with the muffler? I have no clue. But it's scary

Has anyone come across this kinda strange 'problem'?

The noise is coming from the rear of the car. There is no reason to panic, just check the entire car. Sometimes a lizard or something can climb onto car.
We had our Maruti 800 overheating problem solved when we realized that a chameleon was there in engine bay.

well what kind of sound is it ?
If it's something like tak........... tak.........
then it might be coming from your silencer when it starting to cool

The silencer cooling of sound is familiar to me. That sound will be like the metal starting to contract..

This one, like I mentioned in my first post, is like the noise that these insects make from the garden bush or inside a forest. Lemme see if I can record it with my phone today when I park it in the garage, when the ambient noise is less.

The sound you are referring to is the typical sound made by an insect commonly called as "CRICKET" -

biologically they belong to the family called Gryllidae

Interesting here is that this sound is made ONLY BY MALE crickets..

Now I am posting this so that everyone can know what sound your referring to

This sound is 99% from the silencer only. I have noticed this in my earlier stock silencer also. Must be to do with the cooling of the pipes

Thanks for clarifying the genus and species of the biological noise maker Never knew crickets are that noisy!

Coming to the noise from the car, I too feel that it should be from some hot thing (silencer I suppose..) trying to cool off. But it is strange considering the fact that the car is almost 2 yrs old, and only for the past couple of days 'm getting to hear this noise.. probably it just got louder!!

Planning to take it to Electra to inspect that 'suspicious' sound and the part. I don't want male crickets attracting female ones, and breeding at the rear end of my Accent. LOL..my car may be environment-friendly -- attracting bugs!

Usually about 5-7 minutes for short drives. For long ones (>50km) the sound disappears
