Hello Friends,

For the past couple of days i was finding my car (NHC Vtec) to have reduced on pickup. On First gear and Second gear it was very slow, also after travelling for say 10 -15 mts the rpm would just increase on applying accelerator but the car would struggle to accelerate.

Took it to Magnum Honda today morning, they say the clutch might have to be replaced. He says it might have happened due to wrong usage of clutch. Says its very delicate and even with just 500 or 1000 kms this could happen if the clutch is not used correctly.

Wanted to ask, if its normal for an 3 year old car to have such problem.

Please share your view.

Thanks,
Vinay

Yup, riding/slipping the clutch regularly can wear it out in no time.

But if driven well, it can easily last for more than 1L kms.

How many kilometres have you put on your car?

Its about 28K, majority is city driving and acationally long drives. My father too rides the car, so its only two of us who ride.

28k is too low for clucth to wear on normal conditions. But it also depends upon the usage.

anyway. is there a sign of slippage? You can test (PS:usage of handbrake to test clutch)

Loss in pickup can occur due to many factors like tuning, quality of fuel. etc.

Yes, that is the reason why I was so skeptical. But I guess it might have been due to our own driving habits. I guess I tend to drive clutch a lot. And in higher speeds this is devastating.
I have learnt it the hard way.
I have asked the service guy to give me a small demo of the do's and don’ts of clutch while driving. Hopefully I will be careful now on.

yes..clutch gone in dity driving. and excellent chance to replace it with an exedy stage 1.

moslty in city driving you tend to pull the car on second or third gear with overriding clutch. many people dont take the effort to shift the car in first and pull it on 2nd by overriding the clutch.
even 5 k is enough to burn the clutch if not driven properly. my dad does the same on his lancer. i have replaced the clutch once at 30k
