Hyundai Elantra - Hissing noise

Hi!

I own an Elantra CRDi. Last few days i hear a hissing noise which comes under the hood. I suspected a leakage on the muffler. I did get it checked from the Hyundai service station but they say its intact. They are not able to diagnose the problem. Can anyone help me with this. Also - After an accident where we rammed into a buffalo middle of the night the car drags to left. I changed the lower arms, suspension but the problem never ceases to end. The chasis is also perfect. The wheel balancing and alignment also seems perfect. I dont understand where the problem lies? Even checked the steering column - The service guys say its perfect.

Hissing sound can only be created by the following:
1) Leaky radiator cap
2) Faulty beading allowing air to come into the cabin leading you to believe so
3) boost leak

As for the car dragging to the left check the camber on the on the front wheels looks like one of them is off.

Does the Hissing noise exists the moment you start or is it after 2000rpm?

Is this the turbo whistle you are hearing? Try sitting in another turbo diesel vehicle (Verna, Scorpio, etc.) and see if you hear the same whistle (or hiss). If the service center did not find a problem, chances are that it is the normal turbo whistle sound.

Check your belts for wear. Worn out belts also give a sort of hissing noise.

No the hissing starts the moment you start the car. It kind of goes silent or i perceive it to be so once i kind of drive around 40-50 kmph.

The hissing is less heard inside the car. When the car is in idling you can hear it a lot. I tried checking out by asking my wife to drive and i rode adjacent to the car - This is what i observed - The hissing continues till about 30-40 kmph. Once the car exceeds that speed the hissing goes down - at least it sounded to me that way. I really dont know if the hissing really went down.

The belts are intact. In fact i have a policy to replace belts along with the regular service i do every 5000 km. Habit from the good old fiat. I am sure the belts are intact. Its been just 2k kms since i have replaced the belts.

I used to get a small rattling sound during cold start which used to disappear at higher RPM and speed in my Elantra CRDI. Coulprit was worned out engine mountings and were replaced under warranty. Hissing might be a different issue, but no harm is inspecting the mountings

man! your one lucky guy....people pay top bucks for that hiss........cherish it man..its the sign your turbo is alive..and kicking some serious horses outa your elantra!!..usually its more audible when outside air is colder..may be around 15-22*c...its not that u wouldent hear hiss or the wistle in temps above this..just that colder air is denser..and when this meets the extreme ends of turbine blades,,gets supersonic in no time, creating a vaccum vortex..which then pulls additional air into the turbo..this hiss comes from air entering this pseudo air funnel or cone ...dont worry..elantra rocks!
