Is there no 12V power outlet on a Santro?

My friend bought a Santro GLS close to a year back, and i get to travel along with him on multiple occassions. While we were in the midst of some discussion, we started hunting around for the 12V power outlet on his car, so i could plug in an FM transmitter. While locating the power outlet on my car is very easy, for all the time we wasted on the Santro, we just couldnt locate it.

We pop open the manual and scanned through it. Finally located the same in the manual and read through it. It depicted the position of the cigarette lighter , but mentioned 'where applicable'.

I take it to believe this would probably be an option on the top end version, but even sans the lighter as such there should have been the power outlet available! Currently, the socket is concealed using a dummy cover, which wasnt really easy to pry open.

What i wanted to know from Santro owners is if there is a power outlet available at all, or is even that a privilege?

Sadly, IIRC, the Santro does not come with a 12V power outlet or a Lighter socket. They are mostly after market fitments and would not be too heavy on the pocket.

Only thing to keep in mind is to look for a good quality Lighter socket, there are many Japanese made ones available in the market which should do the job.

Santro doesn't have a pre-installed cig. lighter outlet, but it costs only Rs.75 to Rs.150 to get one installed.

Although power users can certainly have more outlets connected at places you wish to have, Like I'll be installing one in the Boot-Space very soon.

For something which hardly costs anything, i dont understand why they had to scrimp on it. Am surprised. Any idea if the Alto has one, just for comparisons sake?

I suppose you are referring to the price of the OEM variety?

I kinda realized that, as the manual does mention the same under "as applicable".

No. Even Alto just has a provision. You have to purchase aftermarket.

The i10 doesnt have an ash tray too!! Thats Hyundai for a greener and cleaner world.
Maybe they know Indians flick the ash out of the windows, and use match boxes for lighting up!

Usually FM transmitter helps if you have a HU that does not support USB/IPod/Bluetooth.

In that case, you can play musin on your IPod or other MP3 player and transmit it with FM. HU will tune to FM that frequency.

silver_shadow, yes he seems to mean the FM transmitter which is now available real cheap, under Rs.300/- (check local shop or ebay) it can also accept memory card which would be read for mp3 or other supported content format.

benbsb29: ALTO doesn't have it pre-installed too, maybe car companies consider it useful for smokers only, while there are many hundred utilities one could connect to that slot.

I guess that sums it up, considering the Santro seems to operate in the same bracket as the Alto these days.

Thats surprising, as being a non-smoker myself, i use the ashtray as a coin holder. Wonder if the i10 owners are compensated with some other cubbyhole for holding coins?

Rightly explained by NFB. The HU in my car plays MP3s, but burning CDs on a regular basis gets boring, so got myself an FM transmitter which reads both pen drives as well as SD cards off Ebay. Bonus is, it also syncs with the mobile as a handsfree using Bluetooth.

Any particular brand/model of the transmitter that you got. I was also thinking of buying this, so some pointers might help. Further does that mean you could use the setup as a hands free kit ? What is the overall voice quality like ? If this is too OT, please PM me.

I recently bought a 12V Portable Car tyre Air Compressor for my Santro. I checked with one of the car accessory shop and he informed that a genuine 12V socket from Hyundai workshop would cost me 850 bucks . It is too much that I thought. Has any one recently bought it from Hyundai ? If yes, what amount have u paid for it.

Thanks

No need to buy from H.A.S.S. as the price they are asking is 10 times more than what you can get in normal market.

There's no advantage of getting it from hyundai, as the socket would be same as one available in market.
The best you can do is to ask the accessories seller to get it properly taped with lots of ISI quality insulated tape and there's no magic which hyundai would do for extra money they asked for.
