Hi

Hi Genesis,

Thanks for the contact number mate. I was completely tied up due to work and was not able to take the car for repairs. I visited the place on wednesday evening last week and spoken to Shekhar.
The battery had run down flat and required recharging, done that on Saturday. I have taken an appointment for tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping not to be a major fault.
Will post once done with repairs.

Rectifier ("cut-out") for the Palio GTX's alternator is Rs. 2400 (+taxes) in Delhi. Got mine changed two weeks ago. There are two bearings in the alternator. One of them was replaced for Rs. 700.

The old rectifier (Bosch) was made in Britain. The new one was made in Mexico. Talk about offshore leverage!

Problem Solved

Hey Guys,

Finally got the car yesterday from repair. I drove for around 10 kms yesterday with and without A/c, no issues. Here's is the break up for the job done.

Rectifier: 1500
Regulator: 1700
2 Bearings: 300
Labour/ Diagnosis/ Overhauling of Alterntaor: 400
Total= 3900/-

It was the Bosch alternator. I got it done at the place suggested by Genesis in the same thread. They are authorised service centre for Bosch, Lucas and Exide. They have a very professional attitude and Shekhar is the contact person in the shop, he is verty appoachable. I highly recommend this place.

What is the kind of warantty offered by him?

Hi Spotty,

All Good Mate! No problems till now. I got the car back next day, so you can expect 2 days (you will have to leave your car with him for a day). The shop is located in Opera house (address/ and tel number mentioned by Genesis in this thread) and the workshop is at Pedder Road. You can ask him about the warranty, it depends as per the job done on the car.
Do call him and take an appointment befor going there.

Thanks Radnam for your response.
Replaced my alternator with a refurbished alternator. Cost Rs 5500/- plus labor 850/-.
I asked for the old alternator back but my mechanic says that the deal for the alternator is such that the faulty alternator has to be returned in lieu of the refurbished alternator. The car is working fine. I hope the problem is solved permanently.
