Remapping a 1.4 TDCi is one the best decision you will ever take.

No, till its done by a professional tuner. Done 30,000 Kms after remap. ODO at 52,000+. No problems whatsoever. I had got my car tuned by Kiirus.

Well technically yes. But employees at workshop hardly have any knowledge to detect a remap. Also 1.4 TDCi is a very old mill and hardly ever any update is done onto it. Whenever my car goes in for service I don't recall any incident where they were able to detect the remap. My car is under extended warranty 2+3 years.

iv. And the most important one. We all know that this mill is a gem for city drives and moderate highway cruising but when it comes to acceleration on highways, it loses its breath in no time. Will the remap make a considerable difference in this regard? I mean, will it be able to catch up with the MJD's and TDI's (atleast the stock ones) once remapped?

After remap, the car would become a pocket rocket in city. You could easily do 65+ Kmph in 2 gear without breaking a sweat. For long drives it can easily keep up & beat stock 1.3 Multijet. Cannot say same for VW 1.6 TDi. After remap my Fiesta 1.4 TDCi easily tops out at 155 Kmph.

Get a remap and you will love your car all over again.:thumbs up

Can you pls share the cost involved in re-mapping and is there any adverse effects on the mileage.

It costed me Rs. 22,000 to get a remap. Adverse effect, none. Done by professional, nothing to worry about.:thumbs up

You can read about my short review of remap on below link.

Link.

Went through the entire thread in one go!

I'm planning to enhance the performance of my Ikon 1.4tdci, it's a 2009 model car which I bought early this month, it has run 56,000km and I'm the third owner. I was taken for a ride as neither the previous owner nor the seconds car showroom from where I bought her told me that there are major engine head issues, I didn't get a mechanic to inspect the car which made it even worse. Lets cut to the chase: I have spent close to 50k completely redoing the engine at a not so friendly but efficient neighbourhood garage.

> I have set aside 60 grand to modify the car:

> My plan as of now is to get a remap done but also replace the existing turbo with a larger one and try to squeeze in a tiny intercooler considering the engine bay has hardly any space to offer for mods. I don't intend to sacrifice the ac condenser in order to plonk on a larger inter cooler, the car will remain a city ride with a working AC, Stock from the outside but a miniature beast from the inside.

My question to the experts is - can I consider fixing a used scorpio crde turbocharger and a used swift intercooler? (two random examples). Assuming the remap costs 30k, will the remaining 30k be sufficient for this mad scheme?

I don't care much about engine longevity etc, I intend to use this car for another 3 - 4 years (50,000km) at the most and would like to make the most of it before I sell it off. I want to squeeze a 100 horses from this engine, if not a little more. The remap Gods promise me 88 Bhp, the remaining horses can surely be drawn from a larger turbo with an intercooler?

Looking forward to your take on this sinister plan of mine!

:thumbs up

How much have you run after having redone the engine? My gut instinct would be to run the car as-is for a few months/few thousand kms before making alterations, just to ensure there are no other gremlins. I also say this because you're considering larger changes like replacing the turbo and adding an intercooler.

Moreover, you've spent 50k on fixing the engine, and planning another 60k for mods. I trust this is money you're comfortable burning, because I think the resale value of a fourth-hand modded Ikon will be abysmal.

For a fat turbo and the large intercooler, you need to provide a lot of smoke. Guess where would that come from? A Cummins small diesel in the boot perhaps? Since it is a city ride only, i think you can do live without the boot space.

In that way, your AC condenser grill is spared and with the cummins, you can run like your ass is on fire; while the car will be stock from the outside but a miniature beast from the inside.

The engine is being re assembled at this very moment, your point is valid arun, it makes sense to drive it around a little and make sure the car is in good shape before injecting it with steroids. And I'm aware of the poor resale value that Fords have, having a Mondeo in the family for the past 10 years I know exactly what you mean. If the car runs well with periodic maintenance and is reliable I may drop plans to sell it.

Are you being sarcastic, mate? This mod may seem funny to you, it ain't so for me.

Hi vnabhi - did you get your Figo remapped? I spoke to Pete's couple of months back. He was charging a bit too much, and the person there didn't appear very professional/technical. Do you know of any other options?

Thanks!

Not yet, but planning for it in a month or two. I was waiting for the new FY, but now that it is come, am trying to shortlist the best guys. There is a difference of 6 K between TOT and Code6, but neither have a base in Hyderabad. They visit once there are a few customers and get the job done.

My only apprehension is that they are not in the vicinity, should I face any issue. This apart, my car's EW ends this October, and I don't want to take the 4th year EW as it costs more than 12 K.

Another feedback from a fellow member is making me think twice. He had gearbox issues after an aggressive remap. He's also confirmed that a remap causes smoke to belch out of the exhaust under hard acceleration. Despite these odds, I am swinging towards a remap.

Can you kindly tell how much ToT and Code6 are charging for a remap? Is it true that remap works better with aftermarket air filter and headers?

No idea about aftermarket air filter and headers. You can post a query to the gurus to answer that question.

The quotes I got are a few months old: 28 K by T-O-T and 22 K by Code6.

Not required, stock exhaust and air filter works very well with a remap. Oiled filters are a hassle and is not required for a fast road tune.

My Figo has done 74K KM, now I want to do the remap(by TOT) or to fix a tuning box(Race Dynamics).
My question is "Is it safe to do the remap by either way at this much KM???"
Which option is good?? ECU remap or Tuning Box??

I was quoted 27K for a remap for the Figo D.

This is just FYI.

By whom? Did you go for it? How is the car now?
