Noise when braking in my Chevrolet U-VA

I noticed the sound when I drove to Kodaikanal and back.
Its a scratchy superficial noise that I hear when braking. The noise actually comes from the brake pedal at my foot - i can kind of feel it with my foot.
I took it to the service station and they sprayed something with not much improvement. I drove it for 1 month inside the city (usually 1-3 km trips) and it felt almost normal.
On my recent highway trip this weekend the noise became more pronounced as I travelled more and on the return journey it was consistently present.
The noise can be easily heard by my co-passengers now.
The noise seems to emanate from the brake pedal or something near my foot. Its scratchy - like mud or rust or something is stuck inbetween.
The braking performance is the same and the car brakes just like before.
A colleague told me it could be sand stuck in some piston/part.
Any ideas from TBHPians?

It might be disc screeching.

How many KMS have you done yet ?

Have you recently changed the brake pads ?

Car is one year old and has done 6000 KM. Brakes have never been changed
Its not a screeching sound at all. I hear it even when the car is at standstill. And it cannot be heard outside the car.
How exactly does the disc screeching sound?

Check two things -

1. Floor Mat on the driver's side - Take out the floor mat a leave only the carpet in. Check after that. Also see that the area is clean.

2. Push the driver's seat all the way back. Lean and look under the dashboard for any wires or anything touching the brake pedal mechanism.

You can also try applying some grease or a few shots of WD40 onto the brake pedal hinge mechanism.

I would suggest you do this first and see if it solves the problem. I had a funny experience when I faced a similar problem with my car. Few months back changed all Discs and Pads in my car and after this change driver's side brake started making all sort of noises and at times even causing wheel lock-ups inspite of ABS. After repeated complaints to both local FORD dealers and assurances from them that the problem is sorted out, they finally replaced all pads at the front saying they are defective. But the problem reappeared after a while. So took the car to a private garage, they applied grease to outer pad surfaces, bolts and all other moving parts in the braking system.

What a surprise, no noise whatsoever and no wheel lock up ever since.

I think the spring on the pedal has become dry and causing this screeching sound.

the floor mats and wires are all clear of the brake pedal.
On the last visit the service guy sprayed something on the brake pedal but it didnt change the noise much.
My car is going for the one year service tomorrow - so I'll keep you updated on what is happening.

Problem seems sorted out. They said they had to remove and clean some spring. The sound is not there for now.
I need to recheck after a long drive though.
