BHPians,

Which is the better option for my 15K old baleno:

1. Use Mobil 1 with a drain interval of 15,000 KMs ( i hope thats the recommended option).

2. Use MGA with a drain interval of 5000 kms. (i change it every 5K kms). I think they use servo or some other PSU brand.

Wudn't it be better ( i dont care abt costs) to change the desi oil 3 times in the same interval than using a phoren oil??.

Also what grades of Mobil 1 are available and how to ensure its a genuine can??.

I also read somewhere that if ur engine is used to regular oil than the change to synthetic shudnt be made???

Any comments?.

as long as its not a engine with worn parts ,u can safely use a fully synthetic oil .Usinga flush will be more helpful.

Mobil 1 vs. Mobil Delvac 1® for a Gasoline Engine
I have read on the Internet that Mobil Delvac 1 oils may provide better performance in high-performance passenger-car engines than regular Mobil 1, since they meet CF-4 specs. What about using Delvac in gasoline engines, especially high-performance engines?
-- "Tribological", Richmond, VA

Answer:
Mobil 1 formulas will deliver everything you need for your gasoline engine. In fact, during development, tests are run in both gasoline and diesel engines to demonstrate the superior performance of Mobil 1. Mobil Delvac 1, which is designed for heavy-duty diesels, meets most diesel engine oil specifications, and also meets API SL certification. And because Delvac 1 operates in a different environment – diesel engines run longer, generate soot and run hotter, it contains different types and amounts of additives than Mobil 1. Even so, Delvac 1 still meets API SL certification for gasoline engines, and because of its high performance, we would expect it to do a good job of protecting your gasoline engine. If you use your gasoline vehicle in "heavy-duty" service, Delvac 1 will provide many benefits compared to conventional oils. When compared to Mobil 1 performance, those benefits may not be as obvious, and in fact, Mobil 1 would be expected to outperform Delvac 1 in many gasoline applications.

Unless used in extreme conditions, the latest hydro-cracked HDEO group-II oils like Chevron Delo 400 or group-I with strong additive package oil like Delvac Super are turning up some incredible UOA readings, surprisingly better than synthetics, also it has been observed that HDEOs cause way less cam wear. Synthetics are good for extreme conditions, mostly sub 0 weather, the OCI factor is really not recommended here in India as the driving and dusty conditions play havoc on any oil.

The best results for gas or diesel cars can be obtained by using either Delo400 or Delvac Super and a conservative oil change interval of say 5000 miles. They are also very good value being way lighter on your pocket as well. Synthetics however do wonder to your tranny and there the cost is fully justified, sadly, it is truly hard to get synthetic tranny oil here in India.

I have used Mobil 1 5w50 in my safari and it has made the engine feel smoother and a little towards refined. No problem till now.
Plus the car has run about 60,000kms and has been about 10,000 kms since the last oil change.
Tata says i should get my car serviced every 4000kms with normal engine oil.

Edit: Question. When should i get the next oil change??

Mobil1 Supersyn Grade for oil in a Baleno

Wanted to put Mobil1 Supersyn in my 10K done Baleno. Did not know which grade to put. The local Maruti Office Engineer had no idea and even went so far as to say that 'Maruti does not recommend Mobil1 Synthetic oil and that it's usage would void warranty.

Hence wrote to Maruti (asking for the correct Mobil1 grade) and got the following reply.

Subject: RE: HT20060329_0000000046 Maruti_Support Technical Query/Maruti Baleno

Dear Sir,

We recommend MGO of grade 20W50 (Shell) for all Maruti vehicles. We also recommend 10W30 IL SAC GF-2 SJ of Exxon Mobil (Non MGO).

For further details of MGO refer to Inspection and Maintenance section of your Baleno Owners manual

Warm Regards

Ankur Kapil

It seems that Maruti recommends Mobil1 Supersyn 10W30 . However only Mobil1 5W50 is available in the market. Even 5W40 seems to be hard to procure.

Experts here please recommend whether it's ok to use Mobil1 Supersyn 5W50 rather than the 10W30 Maruti recommends- especially, considering the non-availibilty of the latter.

Hey, 5w50 is the best grade for the baleno.Get that.
I heard Mobil1 costs 800 bucks per litre.But, wasn't it around 550??

I'd also recommend OWS super-syn 5w50.

Thanks for the reply.

I am not an expert, but do you think that there might be a case of too much viscosity in 5w50 considering that 10W30 is the one Maruti seems to recommend.

I hope some other owners using Mobil1 on the Baleno can comment.

It's for INR 550 for 5w50 per liter from a auto parts dealer.
